All things Shopify and commerce
We launch new product each month. For various reasons (pre-orders, customization) it takes a while to ship everything out and we have customers with multiple pending orders.
What is the easiest way to view customers with multiple pending orders so we can combine them and save them money on shipping?
Hi @joshdane
I really suggest you try Better Reports for this. It will allow you to get that breakdown and filter them as needed.
Let me know!
@joshdane couple ways you can do this in the Shopify admin:
A) In the All Orders page click Open to filter open orders, then Sort by customer name. This will show you customers in sequential order with their open orders so you can spot multiples easier.
B) From the All Customers page click on More filters and filter by the date range of the of all your open orders, then in that same tab filter by More than 1 order.
Better Reports looks like a good solution too if the Shopify admin isn't powerful enough. If it saves you time it's probably worth it.
Hello @joshdane ,
Report Pundit has the easiest option to summarize the multiple pending orders for each customer by showing the details like product name, SKU, Shipping address, etc.
Reports can be exported in Excel, CSV, and PDF formats and can be scheduled on a daily or weekly basis through email, Google Drive, FTP, BigQuery.
We can also create custom reports for your shop. You can reach us at [email protected] or contact our live chat support team for help in creating reports.
Thanks!
I use ReportPundit for generating monthly sales tax reports, and now customers that have multiple open/unfulfilled orders. Works well.
Wish there was a way to auto tag / note those orders ID'd in a report.
Out of curiosity, what would be the reason for tagging them if you already have the report that can identify them?
Sorry for the delay lol. Just so I don't have to make another note somewhere. I usually pull their packing slips and staple them together and tag their orders, as my husband and I work on the orders together. He pulls and processes, I pack.
Hey @Vonda_Youngkin,
We’re glad to hear everything is working well for you! To assist with auto-tagging or noting down order IDs, please reach out to us via our live chat. We’re available to discuss your requirements in detail and explore possible solutions.

Hello @joshdane
We have developed an app called Mergify. It helps you to merge orders. You can define all fields of the new merged order and check the app functionality by creating draft orders. When you are sure about your settings, you can make orders directly. Mergify notifies customers, cancels or archives orders, refunds extra shipping costs if you want.
You can define some rules to help it find mergeable orders for you. For example, you may not want to merge orders with a special tag, or only consider the last 48 hours orders. Mergify then shows you merging suggestions that you can take action with just a few clicks. Even this process can be automated, so if a customer creates orders with the same shipping address that passes your defined rules, Mergify merges it automatically.
In your specific case:
What is the easiest way to view customers with multiple pending orders so we can combine them and save them money on shipping?
you can define a rule in "Automatic Settings" page to filter orders that have a pending payment status:
Then on the "Auto Check" page, you have all the pending orders that can be merged with a few clicks!
