All things Shopify and commerce
I’m trying to figure out how to block IP addresses. Every single reference is multiple years old and point to settings or apps that are no longer available.
One post said to use Shopify Flow(after migrating from Fraud) but I’ve not seen a single bit of instructions on how to actually set that up. The most recent post that I found using the Forum Search is from 2019!
Does Flow actually do this or not?
Hey there 👋🏽
do you want to block your whole store for a specific IP address or do you want to block that customers can order from this IP address?
I'm not 100% sure if Flow can do that, I can only tell that third-party apps can do that. With our app FraudFalcon for example (sorry for the ad) you can create rules and hold or cancel orders automatically that come from a specific IP.
One thing to mention is that even if you block IPs, the same customers can easily switch IPs. It is also typical that your internet service provider is switching IPs quite regularly for you. And fraudsters are (unfortunately) pretty smart on that topic and switch it up more often.
So, in case you want to block fraudulent orders I wouldn't only go for IPs but for more like:
- what is the risk associated by shopify
- billing & shipping address mismatch
- disposable emails
- ... more patterns you recognize.
I hope that helps!
