Bottle Deposit Solution

Bottle Deposit Solution

We are a liquor store in British Columbia. We are required by law to take a 10 cent bottle deposit on every can/bottle sold. We are required to return the 10 cent deposit if a customer brings back empty cans. Anyone can return empty cans, they do not need to have an original order with us to return those specific bottles.

I cannot do a "refund" on the initial deposit (currently it is an item that we add manually based on the amount of cans being purchased) because not everyone returning empties has an original order, or is not purchasing something I can add a 10 cent discount to. They may come in just for their bottle return, not to purchase something at the same time.

We are desperately looking for a solution to this, and our Shopify Team has not found a viable solution. I am open to manual or third party app solutions.

There must be other liquor stores on here that have found a solution! Please help!

Hey @LiquorStorePG I hope you arre doing well.

Before moving to the solution the first thing that I wanna know are you managing an online store, a physical store using Shopify POS, or both? The best solution depends on whether you're processing bottle refunds in-person or through an online system. Let me know, and I’ll gave the solution accordingly!

Hi @LiquorStorePG  and @thescriptflow

Have you checked the Canteen app for Shopify (https://apps.shopify.com/canteen). It will help with the bottle deposits collection in both online store and POS.

Regarding the returns we often see our customers do a discount code (.10 x multiplier) to take off the order. That way they can track it against revenue in.

Hope that helps. Feel free to reach out!
