All things Shopify and commerce
I started my store in 2020 on the original Shopify platform and I am about to move to a new theme to benefit from 2.0. My original photographs were 1:1 ratio, this is no longer working for me as most of my supplier use 4:5 and I want to move to this. Changing all of my product photography is a massive job as I have 500 SKUs, all with several photos.
I am looking for a solution to replace all the photographs but keep the current ALT text, does anyone have any suggestions or easier ways to do this? I've reviewed a few image editing apps, but none seem to have the capability to do this. Any help will be gratefully received!

Hi @Sambelina,
Transitioning to a new theme can be a great opportunity to optimize your product images! To replace your photographs while retaining the current ALT text, you might consider using a bulk image management tool or Shopify app that specializes in image editing. Unfortunately, many apps don’t offer this specific functionality.
Our app, SEOPro, can assist you in bulk updating ALT text while you replace the images. It simplifies managing SEO aspects of your images, ensuring everything stays optimized.

Hi Sambelina,
Our app https://apps.shopify.com/simple-file-manager allows you to replace an image if the file name is the same as what's on Shopify. This updates the image and maintains the alt. You will still need to use another application to update the aspect ratio of your images, and then use Simple File Manager to replace your files.
See the top right corner in the following screenshot for what you will see should you download the application.
Here's what you can do:
I recommend testing it out with a few files first. We offer a 14 day trial, so it costs nothing to try and verify if it suits your needs. The app does require you to hit replace for every image at the moment, but if it works well for your use case and you want it to replace an image as the default behavior, we can work on adding it as a feature for you.
