Hi there,

The best way to do Buy X get Y as you want is to install an upsell/cross-sell app. Usually, this kind of apps will allow you to create customized offers to push sales, for example:

- Buy one, get one free (BOGO)

- Buy two, get 50% off of another one

- Buy sneakers, get socks for free

I suggest these two apps: Bold Bundles and Discounted Upsells

There are a lot of upsell/cross-sell apps in the app store, but the twos above are the minor ones I found that allow creating BOGO offers.

They are monthly charged, but all have a free trial from 7 to 14 days. I think it's worth to give it a try, and you are the one to decide which one is the best fit for you.

Hope you find this helpful, and Merry Christmas.

If it’s helpful for you, please let me know by giving it a like or marking it as a solution!

Hello, @BeautyBuffetInd.

Elias here with Shopify Support. Thank you for this inquiry.

I noticed you posted a similar question on Gift box free on shopping above X amount, possible?’, which may have answered your question. The customer will need to add both the product and the free product for the system to automatically apply the discount. A good way to let customers know is by advertising adding the free product to cart with a banner, a slideshow image, or an email newsletter. Also, ensuring the free product is not out of stock.

If you need the free product to be added to cart automatically without having the customers add both products to cart, as suggested by @PageFly-Victor. You can also use a third-party app, such as Milestones or Automatic Discounts. If you need any assistance with these apps, you can always reach out to the developers directly through the contact information found in the Support section of the app’s page.

I hope this helps clarify our automatic discount! If you have any other questions on automatic discounts, don’t hesitate to let me know in this thread.

Hi Elias

They are different questions.

Here I'm asking if I want the automatic offer to be on all (or any) product, the only condition being that the minimum amount spent is met.

The other question was, I want customers to see the gift box first and then be like, 'Hey, shop for x amount to get this beautiful box free'

Hey, @BeautyBuffetInd.

Thank you for the follow-up and I can appreciate that they're different questions. The automatic discount can be applied with a free product; however, this requires the customer to add the free item to cart to qualify for the discount. Once your customers' have INR 1999 worth of products from the specified list and they've added the free product to their cart, the system will automatically apply the discount and give the gift box free of charge.

That said, it's a great idea to let the customers to see the promotion and incentivize them to buy more with a gift box. I recommend adding a banner or slideshow that advertises this offer on your homepage so your customers are made aware of this offer.

Could you let me know the steps you took so I can find which part wasn't working for your automatic discount?

I'm finding it very difficult to get the buy x get y feature working. So do you need a third party app or not? Shopify goes on about this feature but when using it there is now prompt in needing a third party app. Reading up on the Buy X get Y feature in shopify support and it seems pretty simple. I'm following the steps to a "T". Where is the product you are discounting or giving for free suppose to appear during the shopping experience???? BTW having, to sign up to another app is starting to become a joke.

Hi

The customer needs to add both the products in order to get one of them free. Then only it will work.

Hey, @TalonFIghtGear.

You don't need a third-party app for creating a buy X get Y discount. However, as suggested @BeautyBuffetInd, if you're offering a buy one get one discount - you'll need to add both items to cart before applying the discount code at checkout. If you're offering buy 2 get 1 free, then you'll need to add 3 items to the cart before applying your discount code.

Alternatively, you can consider setting up an automatic discount for buy X get Y as well. The benefit of an automatic discounts is that the discount can be applied automatically at checkout, once the cart meets the discount conditions.

That said, were you able to get the discount working since then?

If not, I'd be happy to take a closer look. Can you share your store URL and a screenshot of the conditions for your buy X get Y discount?

The problem is that the customer needs to go and select the free product. and it should appear automatically on the cart

Hey, @noosabasics.

Thank you for joining the thread!

I appreciate you for sharing this feedback and I can see how being able to apply free products automatically to the cart can be a useful feature for our merchants, like yourself. As we're always looking to improve, features like this are built with growth in mind and I'd be happy to share your feedback with our developers. If Shopify moves forward with any changes to our automatic discounts, you'll be able to find it on our changelog and announcements page.

That being said, I was able to find a couple of third-party apps that can automatically add promotions or products directly to the cart. If this is something you're interested in, you can consider using one of these apps in the meantime. Also, if you need any help with these apps, you can always reach out to the developers through the contact information found in the Support section of their app pages.

My BOGO automatic discount is not taking off the price of the second item. It looks like it discounted it but it didn't make it free. How do i fix? it is set up to buy one item from a certian collection get one free from that certain collection and the customer did everything right but it didn't give it free.

Hi Elias,

The problem is that the customer has to select the items prior to checkout rather than having the flexibility to have the 2nd item added to the cart or giving the customer the option at check out to add the second Free or discounted item (would be great if the option appeared for the customer in the shopping cart). That would be far more intuitive. To be honest it's something that should be given as a standard by Shopify considering I am paying already +$70 a month (other apps included). So going back to the issue from a users perspective, I would have to somehow communicate to a customer or potential customer that to apply for the offer "they have to do this and then that etc to get the special offer".

Hey, @Diane_Mchugh.

Welcome to the thread!

If the BOGO discount isn't applying properly, then it's possible that the discount conditions weren't set up properly. However, I'm unable to take a closer look at your discounts, as we're unable to authenticate your account and provide account-specific support on the Community Forums. That being said, our Support team would be more than happy to assist you through live chat, callback, or email. To create a support request, please visit Shopify Help Center and log into your account.

I hope this points you in the right direction to get help with your discounts!

Hi, @TalonFIghtGear.

Thank you for following up!

I understand that having customers add all the products for the BOGO discount to apply may seem unintuitive. However, this allows your store to have multiple discount offers at the same time. Although you can only have one automatic discount active at a given time, you can have multiple promotions running by using discount codes.

As for a way to advertise the promotions and instruct customers on applying the discounts, you can consider using the sections from your theme (eg. image with text, slideshow, announcement bar) or creating a page and including it in your navigation menus.

That being said, I can see how having the free products automatically appear in the cart would be a great experience for the customers and I'd be happy to share this feedback with our developers. If Shopify moves forward with any changes or updates to the discounts, you'll be able to find it on our changelog and updates page.

It's a useless piece of UX tbh - this should be automated by Shopify out of the box not reliant on an app.
