All things Shopify and commerce
It’s a long story but here goes.
paid thousands to a Fiverr freelancer ( freeloader) to build shopify shop back in feb 2024, shop built and did not really use until sep 2024 and really started getting 8th shopify in feb 2025, as eBay is now arguably a mobster , taking a larger and larger taste from client funds.
this aside, in march 2025 I suddenly got a dmca notice from shopify, mush as I protested and made my case to pixelunion, shopify, shopify ceo etc. I have eventually had to purchase the empire theme, fair enough. I made a backup of the theme and the settings data.json file prior to site b3ing taken down and knew that when I restored all should be ok. Big mistake.
i was not told however, that the version of the empire theme is 11.1 and shopify 2.0 , whereas my version of the empire theme that the rogue freelancer but on was 5.3, so I get in touch with pixelunion who say, oh dear you e got a vintage theme, we can’t do anything about it, you can follow this manual procedure or you can hand over further funds to our shooify partner.
i’mbeginning to think I’ve been here before with the mob, trying to extract every last cent from sellers.
basically are there any skilled coders on here, who can transfer my vintage theme code to the new theme code such that I can update it in future.
the old code has been heavily customised but is backed up and there are a few apps I have installed such as popconvert and adapt translate and social media marketing. But other than that
I have not a clue on coding , so shopify advised that I post on here to the community as obviously I do not wish to go near Fiverr ever again.
basically the people ,at pixelunion stated this, even though I have paid an extortionate £260 for their theme, unbelievable ? Incredulous? I can think of a few other words too
Euwi (Pixel Union) Apr 17, 2025, 6:48 AM EDT Hi I understand your concern. However, the Theme Updater Pro Plan which automatically updates the theme only works for Online Store 2.0 compatible versions stating Empire 6.0.0. The only way to update your theme to the latest version is to do this manually: Updating a theme manually. If you need assistance with transferring the code modifications to the updated version, we recommend working with our preferred Shopify experts at Storetasker. They can help carry over customizations from the old theme or handle the full rebuild. I know this is not the ideal solution for you but this is the only option to update your theme from a vintage version. Kind regards, Euwi Pixel Union | Out of the Sandbox | Uptime |
Hey @Shorgs,
Thanks for reaching out to Shopify Community.
I would be more than happy to update your Shopify Empire old theme version [pirated] with the new one. Actually this need to paste the code very carefully. And this can be done by a expert [like me]. Because sometime while copying pasting the file code show an error this is because of copying the irrelevant code that does't support in te updated one.
So would you like to share the Store URL and collab code in the p/m.
And also I want to know do you need same layout that in old theme or you want some changes in the new theme?
Waiting for your reply.
Thanks
My theme , now version 5.3, unknown to me was pirated I have purchased the empire licens now, I had no choice. but now need to move the code from the vintage theme 5.3 which is installed , as I restored the theme to get my settings and setup back. over to the shopify empire 2.0 theme version 11.1 . I I would like it to be EXACTLY as I have it now, it took me a long time to get it right, but I just need to be able to get updates to enable continuity of my store
would you be ok doing this?
thank you
Yes,
Am sure to do this.
Thank you for your consideration bu5 I’d rather await a solution from shopify after the considerable expense I’ve had already, 8 don’t really want to use Fiverr or any other freelancer site. I just want to stock to shopify community
Just out of interest how much to do this, it is an absolute nightmare and pixelunion are useless.
