You can do either!

If you're wanting to provide a more seamless experience for your users, where they aren't required to be redirected to a different site to browse your products, then you can use the Buy Button channel. The Buy Button channel allows you to create products with Shopify, then use an embeddable code to place your products on your existing website. The customer can then browse your products from your existing website, add the products to the cart, then be redirected to the Shopify checkout to complete the purchase. You can use this channel for $9 USD/month.

Alternatively, you set up a Shopify store, where your customers are redirected to your storefront if they select "Shop" - Your storefront would need to include an option to redirect back to your existing website. You'd also need to create a subdomain such as for your storefront. You'd be paying $29 USD/month for the Basic plan if you opted into having a storefront with Shopify instead.

Let me know if you have any questions.
