Can I completely opt out of Shopify Markets?

Can I completely opt out of Shopify Markets?

Is there any way to turn off Shopify Markets or opt out of it entirely? Others might love it but it's a total pain in my experience since it's introduced for smaller shops not on the advanced plan.

Hi @lauyen,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I'm happy to provide some assistance with Shopify Markets, to get this resolved. While Shopify Markets cannot be disabled completely, you can look to deactivating and removing any markets you no longer wish to sell too. I recommend checking out our Managing Markets documentation for more information on these steps.

It outlines however, you can:

  • Head to Settings  > Markets, from the Shopify admin.
  • Click Manage beside the market that you want to deactivate.

  • From the More actions list, click the Deactivate market.

  • Click the Deactivate to confirm.

  • Click Remove to confirm.

As I can completely understand how this may not be ideal, I'm happy to make a note with our Developers. We are always looking for ways to improve the platform and appreciate the feedback for Shopify Markets.

Please let me know if you have any other concerns!

This is horrific.  We have 20 Shopify Plus stores, all of which sell to multiple countries around the world.  We use Avalara.  All worked fine until the Shopify Markets feature was introduced, and now none of our international customers are able to check out.  We cannot simply enable those markets, because we do not want checkout in local currency, or pricing rounded in local currency, and it appears to mess with our Avalara integration.  This is a disaster and was pushed with no announcement or option to opt out.  I am reaching out to plus support but don't have 20 hours to dedicate to learning and reconfiguring all our stores.  Truly the horrible side of hosted apps pushing major changes.  Our MSM has changed 4 times in the last 2 months so no help there.

It is total nonsense what Shopify is doing with markets. Noticing a significant drop in my sales. My international customers are not able to check out using alternative payment options the only payment options they have available to them now or PayPal. Shopify suggested that I change my default currency in markets to Canadian dollars but now my customers are complaining about the currency conversion fees but they now have to pay. My abandon cart checkout rate is higher than it's ever been in the three years that I've been in business. For the first time in my business I'm seeing a loss of sales. I'm in Canada but the majority of my customers are in the US and they're frustrated because they cannot see pricing in their currency, they are having to pay ridiculous dynamic currency conversion fees and Shopify doesn't have a fix for it they've offered me $299 but this has been going on since February and we're now in June and they've stopped phone support because they know what they're doing and that they have no fix for it. Prior to this ridiculous change the majority of my customers using mine now pay later options which are no longer accessible to them if I set my markets to their local currency because all of a sudden Shopify cat supports multiple currencies.
