Re: Extend free trial

Can I take my domain if I leave during the extended trial?

I have been offered a trial extension for £1 for 3 months.

I already have my own domain and if I extend to the £1 for 3 months trial, I'll be using this domain for the website.

I'm thinking of extending my trial as I need more time to explore Shopify. My questions are:

What if I'm not happy with shopify during my extended trial? Will I be locked into a contract?

If I leave shopify will I be able to take my domain with me to a new host?

Is there a charge for leaving in the extended trial?

Thank you.

Hi, @glam2024!

Thanks for reaching out, I'm happy to provide more context.

You aren't locked into a contract when you take advantage of our trial offer. If you would like to cancel your account, you can do so at any time. The steps to do so are outlined in this help document.

You can transfer your domain away from Shopify if you choose to not stay on the platform. There are a few considerations to keep in mind when doing so (including eligibility requirements determined by ICANN), and you can find those details here

There isn't a charge for closing your account before the trial is over. You're free to do so at any time.

I certainly recommend taking advantage of the trial offer! It allows you to take your time getting to know the platform and seeing what Shopify has to offer. I also recommend checking out this blog post which is a complete guide on Shopify's features and benefits. Our support team is also available 24/7 to answer any questions you may have!

I hope this helps, and please let me know if there's anything else I can assist you with.

Thank you for your reply.

- For your domain to be eligible for transfer, you need to wait 60 days
after performing the following tasks:
- purchasing the domain
- transferring the domain to Shopify
- changing your contact information

So, do i need to trial shopfiy for at least 60 days for transferring? If I
decide its not for me?

Also, my domain is with another provider and shopify will be the website
host for that domain. Do the aforementioned rules still apply? My domain is
co.uk

Apologies for the questions. Just want to be sure that I understand.

Hi, @glam2024!

No worries at all, I'm happy to answer any questions you have.

Those rules do apply if you transfer your domain to Shopify. The rules are set by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), and not Shopify.

In practice, this would mean that if you transferred your domain to Shopify and decided to not stay on the platform, you would need to wait 60 days before you can transfer your domain again.

One alternative is to connect your domain to Shopify, rather than transfer it. Connecting your domain points your URL to your Shopify store so that customers can enter that URL into their web browser to visit your online store. By connecting your domain, there aren't the same strict eligibility requirements. If you decided to stay on the platform, you could always transfer it at a later date! Feel free to check out this help document to learn more.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you. I was told by a chat representative that the £1 offer is a subscription plan and I can't change my mind if I sign up. So, I'm rethinking joining shopify as I'm new to ecommerce and liked the idea of being able to explore the platform a little longer.

Hi, @glam2024!

Thanks for getting back to me. There may have been some miscommunication from the advisor you were speaking to, and I apologize for that. You are definitely able to change your mind and cancel your account, even if you're on the £1/month offer. The whole point of that promotion is to give you time to try out Shopify and make sure it's right for you!

The only thing I can think of that the advisor you spoke to may be referencing is our yearly subscription. We offer an annual subscription at a reduced rate (compared to our monthly subscription), which means you're charged for the entire year. When you're on a yearly plan, the expectation is that you'd be using Shopify for that whole year, and you don't have the same flexibility as when you're on a monthly plan in terms of commitment and cancelling your account.

So rest assured that if the £1/month offer is available to you, you can take advantage of it and still have the option to cancel if you change your mind. You'll just want to make sure you cancel your account before that offer is over so you aren't charged. I certainly hope you stick with us! I recommend checking out our pricing page to read more about the features included with each plan, and to learn more about our annual vs monthly subscriptions.

Please let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be happy to clarify!
