Is there anyway that limited admin users can login to the Shopify pos in the different retail stores - we only put Shopify POS live in three test locations in December before adding others but have not been happy that a full admin user with full unfettered access to all business & customer reports, financials, products etc for every retail location in the group not just their own store must log in to the POS system during the day if the POS logs off for any reason.
Currently in our test stores we have given admin user access to the shop for anyone to use - what is the alternative? call the owner or a senior company manager every-time to remotely dial in and log on the pos ??
Our initial test period is now finished and for this aspect it looks like we will regrettably need to drop rolling out Shopify pos - so as a last resort I am reaching out here to ask how other multi store business's manage on this issue - a senior manager with full group access cannot be on site in every store at all times everyday to log everyone in to the pos if it logs out.... and why the need to have someone in every remote retail store given full admin access to download, change or delete anything on your web or pos platform including giving full access to monitor daily credit card revenue being sent to the company bank account for the group.
Whats the solution guys??

Thanks for reaching out in the Shopify Community. It sounds like you want to make sure your staff can login to the POS, without the need for someone with full access permissions to come into each of your retail locations to log them in.
Have you used Staff PINs before? Staff PINs allow you to generate a unique PIN for each staff member where staff can login to your POS without the need for approval. By default, all Staff PINs come with full access permissions:

I'm curious about your POS logging you and your staff out. When did this happen? Was the device connected to the internet at that time?

I am aware of using staff pins for the POS app and in each store each staff member has been set to full permissions for the POS. However, these pos pins only allow the user to login to the cash register itself and do not allow a user with full permissions on POS to log on to the pos if it logs out.
My issue is not with the POS pins nor with POS permissions but with the apparent requirement to have a full multi store group access senior employee or company owner to be on-site to simply log on to the Point of Sale App if it logs out.... So someone in a store can have full managerial access to the POS but still not have the ability to log on to the POS if it is logged out at anytime..

Therefore, as we found out on many nights in our live testing in the selected stores, when the POS iPads or i-Phones run security or software updates at night the following morning there needs to be a person with full group access like a company owner or senior administration manager onsite in that store to perform the simple task of logging back into the POS for the full permissions store employees that work in that store . Seems wrong that a senior employee or company owner is needed to be on site in a remote store location for something so basic as turning on a cash register so full permission POS employees can begin to make sales !
The only work around we have in place since the issue presented itself was to create each store in the live trial as a generic admin user with an email and password and then everyone working in the store has access to use this email and password to log on the pos when its needed.
This in turn means that every single pos user in a store regardless of seniority has to have full access to the group finances for each individual store in the company amongst lots of other proprietary or sensitive supplier or product information by having full admin access to turn on the point of sale cash register if it ever logs itself off....
Recently we were offered a contract to open a few concession stores in a national department store group however using Shopify as our pos we would need to give full company admin access to each concession staff member who works for the various department store outlets.... this is not something we would allow as these employees effectively work for the department store and not our company and by giving access to every external store in our group and to our company financials for every store is not feasible unless we can figure out how other multi store companies that might use your pos work around this issue of giving full multi store admin access to every store in their group.
We still use Vend in our other stores and as is the case of all other POS system that I am familiar with for multi stores you simply set up limited access for employees on POS regarding their permissions in the admin area but even the most basic user could at least log back onto the POS if it logged itself out.
I do like the Shopify POS system, especially if a company is using your web platform to makes great sense to use both platforms. Despite the Shopify POS weaknesses, software bugs and niggling issues it is solid, but if a basic login to the POS can only be done personally by a company owner or similar full group permissions admin user then Shopify POS is really not suitable for a larger multi store retailers.

You’re correct that Staff PINS don’t allow the staff member to login to the Shopify POS if the POS logs out. Once the Shopify POS app has been logged out completely, a staff member with full permissions will need to login with an email and password. I appreciate the context you provided here. This is helpful.
I spoke with our retail support team about this and it is a tough one. Have you tried to lock the screen on your iPad before? Locking the screen would allow to lock the screen after a period of inactivity or when a sale is conducted. A Staff PIN would then be used after to login, and there would be no need for someone with full permissions to login.
You can follow these steps to enable this:
1) From Shopify POS, tap Store, and then tap Settings.
2) Tap Auto-lock screen.
3) Do either or both of the following:
4) Tap the left-arrow to return to the General settings screen.

If you find that you still need to update your software on your iPad, you could have the staff that have full permissions come into your store at a set time and date to log into the POS. While your screen is locked, staff with a Staff PIN can log in and any sales under that Staff PIN would be attributed to that staff.
I understand how it would be beneficial to your store to have staff be able to login to the POS on their own, so I would be happy to send this feedback up to our developers so that they are aware of how we can improve Shopify for you and all of our merchants. If we move forward with this, we will announce this to you and all of our merchants, and in the changelog or announcements page.

I've forwarded your store and name to our developers, and let them know that you would like us to support you with being able to login your staff into Shopify POS when logging out, without the need for full staff permissions. If we do move forward with this, we will reach out to you and all of our merchants, and list it in our changelog or annoucements page as I mentioned earlier.

Hi Tira - Did you ever come up with a solution for this. WE have the same concern.
Same issue here
This problem renders the POS app useless, I cant travel around the country to login to terminals. Would have paid 89 each month for every center but cant do that now, will have to develop my own side solution with Mesa.
When developing the App this issue should have been identified or at least solved in one year time. The entire thing with permissions should be that personnel with a lower permission can log in.
Is there any update on this issue?

Hi there
Not sure if this is the same issue, but every time I want to go onto the POS on my phone, it asks me for a PIN, but if I go back too far, I have to generate a new PIN, then the PIN does not work. I'm concerned now that my staff will have the same issue, we have a few staff running a shift at the site, we upgraded to POS Pro only to add extra staff and for permissions, but I think I'm going to have the same problem, testing tonight and they are all asking me for PINS, which are not working?
