Can No Longer Upload Product Images via URLs

I have been uploading product images via website links now for 2 years the same way.  these are all jpg images from supplier websites and I either enter them manually into the product page in the admin or via a CVS file.  I have over 20 suppliers and have been uploading images from all of the sites like clockwork.  as of last week the link to upload the images is gone from the product page in Shopify and I have to click Add Existing and then try to upload the image in Existing.   I am getting an error message using every link I try from all 20 suppliers websites.  some of the images I am trying I had previously uploaded to the site so I know that they worked very recently.

I have about 500 products and maybe 2k images to put on two sites and have no way to get all the products listed.  the only option I have is to screenshot them, crop into a square and scoop them on.  at that rate it will take me  maybe 2 months to get one week of work done.  I need this done before the end of next week.

anyone have a solution? or know what the heck is going on?  Shopify support is either zero help or deflecting saying it must be a problem with the links but that's not the case as it's widespread to 20+ sites. no changes have been made to all of those sites in the past week.  this is obviously a Shopify problem.

this is pretty serious for me and my business and Shopify is so far treating it like it's whatvever.  this is my livelihood and need to get back to work immediately on this.  please help.

Hi Bryan,

I have experienced the same issue with my store. I found a workaround that might be helpful for you too. I tried importing products by CSV and included the image links directly in the CSV file. It worked for my store. Have you considered this method? I hope this suggestion proves to be just as useful for you as it was for me.

Best of luck, and let me know if it helps!

I mentioned in the post that that is a way I have been doing it.  I am afraid it will reject the same links.  but I will try one now to see and check back in a few.

the problem I would still have is that even if I upload via a CSV I am constantly updating the products and often need to change images, and fix bad images.  I use that feature every day of the week as i have 10k products that constantly need updating.  Shopify needs to fix this so I can work.

edit:  so the CSV file worked for one supplier.  this narows it down a bit and I now know for sure it's a problme with the Shopify Admin page.  so I can do large bulk imports but no on the fly imports after the product is in the system.  or one by one imports when I just have one product or two (which I do many times a week)

Thanks!

Curious if anyone has found a fix other than the one stated above?

Shopify is just making excuses and avoiding even acknowledging there was a change to their admin.

Support in the past year went from good to just about worthless

It's kind of a hassle but wouldn't you be able to complete one-by-one updates by uploading those via CSV?  Maybe do 4-5 at a time?

Experiencing the same issue as well. It started when they added the new image upload pop-up.
Uploading by URL fails, but you can save the images then upload. But that is obviously that adds a lot more work.

Classic Shopify increasing the clicks needed to go from A to B without actually improving the process.
