All things Shopify and commerce
We would like to be able to restrict products to view and purchase to those people who are registered and further restrict them to a list of prescribed products. Is there any way to do this, please?

Thanks for your reply, @TonyH!
To suggest some better app alternatives for you, can you tell me specifically which limitations either of the above apps had? For example, did they offer feature A, but then miss feature B?
Going by the apps' descriptions and your example, it should have worked, but it's likely I am missing the full context. This way, I can help research some solutions without having you test each individually.

Thank you so much for clarifying, @TonyH.
I've been doing some extensive research for you on the matter and most of the 'product locking' apps work directly on your website (i.e. requiring login on your actual site). This means, once you start selling on other channels, you will lose that exclusivity you are looking to maintain by offering your product only to certain customers via use of the apps.
With that being said, my recommendation would be to limit product availability across other sales channels or remove the channels entirely to maintain this limited nature. This will allow you to have the most control over your products and offerings.
Please let me know if that helps,

Hey, @TonyH!
Welcome to Shopify Community.
Thanks so much for sharing your question with our network. I'd be glad to support you with achieving this functionality on your store.
The best and most efficient way to set this up will be with a third-party app developed for just this. Luckily, I found several options for you to pick from on our App Store. To make things easier, I shortlisted some of my top picks for you below:
While most of the marketing for such apps is geared towards wholesale customers, I don't see why this wouldn't fit your needs too. Make sure to check them out, paying special attention to feature details and real testimonials to get the right fit.
Let me know if I missed or misunderstood anything.
Warm regards,

Hi, @TonyH!
I'm following up with you again as it has been some time and I have not heard back from you. To help you get the most value out of your introduction period and set up your store successfully, please let me know if any of the above app solutions work for your needs.
Furthermore, if you have an existing store then you may be interested in how to transfer over important store data like customer records or blog posts, and more. If this is applicable to you, then please check out our documentation on migrating to Shopify.
If there's anything further I can assist with, let me know right here.
Warm regards,

That's great to hear - do make sure to update me as you test out the above options.
As far as tab creation goes, do you have an example of what you mean? If you can share a screenshot or example with me, I'd be glad to point you in the right direction.
Warm regards,

Hi Olivia,
Unfortunately, neither solution will work for us. We have to be able to allocate specific products on a case-by-case basis to a client from a restricted collection (this would be a different set of products for each client). But also for them to be able to see and have access to any other products we have for general sale in different collections.
Best wishes
Tony
ps Woocommerce membership app is something that just about fulfils the need but obviously, we want to use Shopify 🙂

Previous apps enabled us to lockdown products on a desktop but not other channels. For example, you could still buy through the Shopify Shop app. We need a solution that will lockdown products on a customer-by-customer basis across all channels for a specific product range?

Hi Olivia, yes sadly I think that is going to be the only option.
Than you
Thanks for following up with me, @TonyH.
I understand this may not be the ideal solution for you, though by preventing products from appearing on other sales channels it may lessen the confusion for any customers that were to otherwise see the products and be unable to purchase them.
Furthermore, a workaround I wanted to suggest was if you do offer similar or general products perhaps consider creating a duplicate item. This will give you the opportunity to sell products at X price on sales channels only and discounted alternatives to existing clients through your site.

Just a quick reply for anyone else looking for information on this topic.
Shopify can be made a part of a HIPAA-compliant solution so long as you are storing your HIPAA & PHI ( also know as ePHI) data outside of Shopify and using a HIPAA-compliant webhost.
We do this all the time. There are some key concepts that need to be followed .. all dictated by your workflows for purchase.
If you are storing prescription products + customer information in Shopify then you are in violation of the basic tenants of HIPAA & the Office of Civil Rights requirements for handling such data.
Also happy to talk to people about how we can help.
