Can't buy domain, said I need to add payment method but I already did

Hey,

I can't process to buy a new domain. The system keeps saying that I need to add a payment method. I already did, and even added 2 methods on it (visa and paypal). Still got the same message again and again, see photo attached. How can I fix this? Thank you!

Hi, @Natalie888.

Welcome to the Shopify Community!

When adding a payment method on file, could you ensure it meets the following criteria:

  • a valid credit card from Mastercard, Visa, or American Express.
  • a debit card that is co‑branded with Mastercard, Visa, or American Express.

Could you check that the name entered in the domain purchase window matches the name listed on the payment method in your Settings > Billing section of the admin?

If all above information is correct, then I recommend creating a support request via the Shopify Help Center. This will ensure your account is safely authenticated through the Help Center and a member of our team can securely access your account to investigate.

Hi, @RegattaRowing and @mando9727.

Welcome to the Shopify Community, and thanks for joining the thread!

As per my post above, could you check that the payment method on file (or the payment method you're attempting to add meets the following criteria?) You can also refer to our Billing FAQ.

Additionally, can you also check if you have a first and last name set for your account? For example, if you have your first name on your account set to Shop and last name set to Admin, the domain purchase will not go through. Please follow the steps below to confirm this.

  • Navigate to your Shopify admin.
  • Select your profile/store name at the top right and select Manage Account.
  • Once you're redirected to the General page, you'll need to adjust your first and last name to your actual details and remove the store name + admin reference.

Please let me know if these steps have helped you or if you're still receiving the same error message.

This solved my issue, thank you!

I feel that these steps should perhaps be listed directly in the failure dialogue during setup. Whilst the information makes sense and one would likely eventually get there, it can be a bit out of sequence and is hard to diagnose with the information provided.

Thanks but after repeated tries, I was feeling restless so I bought the
domain from Godaddy. So I will link it now to Shopify.
