Can the Search bar search the whole site and not just the products?

Is there a way to have the search bar search the whole site and not just the products. So when they search a word it will look through the blogs posts and other pages.

Hello @dsmallwood82 ,

  Yes it's possible.
You have to use this hidden input inside the form tag.

<input type="hidden" name="type" value="product,article,page">

Hi, @dsmallwood82. I'm happy to help you out with this!

Currently using the storefront search customers can search across all of your store's products, blog posts, and pages. That being said, there are some settings that need to be in place to ensure products, pages, and blog posts are searchable. This page explains more about the settings you'll want to double check. I recommend taking a look through this whole guide on the storefront search as well. It has a lot of information explaining how the storefront search works and its limitations. If you're hoping to have more customization over your search results I also recommend you consider using the Shopify Search & Discovery app. You can learn more about the app here and you can add it to your store from the app store listing here if you're interested.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

I have them on active. I'm not sure regarding seo.hidden. I'm not sure where to find that to see if I need to fix it. And if so what to fix it to.

???

  • Make sure that the page doesn't have a metafield seo.hidden set to 1, or the page will be hidden from the storefront search

There are a few reasons why pages and blog posts might be missing from the Shopify Storefront search results:

  1. The seo.hidden metafield has a "1" value on the pages and blog posts that aren't appearing. (If it appears in Google Search results, then this is not your issue.)
  2. If you use the Search & Discovery app, they might not be included in the results. Go to the Settings tab and make sure that Pages and Blog Posts are both selected under "Search Results".
  3. The search code has been edited to only show products.
  4. There is no copy in the "Content" field in the page/post edit screen.
I just had the same issue and discovered that the global search only considers the "Title" and  "Content" fields, and completely ignores the copy entered in the template using the Theme Editor.
In our case, the About page was missing because all of the content on the page was entered within the theme editor on the "about" template.

(There might be other reasons, but I can't think of any at the moment.)

Is there a way to do this the other way around? As in when someone uses the search bar this only brings up the products?

It seems to bring up everything on the website linking to the specific word. Thanks,

Hey @deanewilson17

Would you be able to share some examples of the search results you are seeing and what you would like to have removed from them? This might be possible, but it could require a third party app or customization to the website for it to have that effect.

You can do this in the Search & Discovery app settings. Screenshot 2024-03-19 at 3.51.22 PM.png
