Can we add the option to personalize an item to a product entry without an app?

Hi! We are looking to add an option to a tote bag where the customer can select to personalize the bag with their name and select the text color. We also want to show that this is an extra cost. Is there a way to do this by adjusting the code and not installing an app. We are using the dawn theme.

Yes this is possible with using line item properties, there's only one catch and that is you cannot change the price dynamically when user selects or adds their personalization options. For that you will have to use an app. 

But if you like make it required that the user has to give his name and colour and have a price accordingly then this can be achieved with custom code.

I am reaching out as I have made a small ui/ux feature using in-built capabilities in Shopify on a client request. There's still some work to be done but i just wanted to get feedback from entrepreneurs and merchants such as you.

Below is an example, of how using line item properties I have created a bundle feature but the price is not dynamic, this is a product itself with a set price. It's just a better ui that lets create a bundle.

Please search for this specific product: **bundled discounted collection** or just see the section below the banner in the homepage.

You will see cards on click of which a popup opens and you can select and remove products from different collections.

Your requirement is much basic than this, this is just for an example.

With  something like a gift-wrapping customization for the cart page you find online but code it per product on product pages like an upsell.
