All things Shopify and commerce
We just migrated to a shopify store for our local market and now we want to open an international store on Shopify with a separate currency.
How do we configure the domain for the international store with a separate folder name and not sub domain?
like domain.com/intl/ and not intl.domain.com
Is it possible in Shopify?
@jain1980 Certainly! Here's a guide to setting up an international store in a separate folder (like domain.com/intl/) on Shopify without using a subdomain:
1. Prepare the International Store:
- Duplicate your existing Shopify store to create an international version.
- Customize the international store by adding products, setting prices in the desired currency, and adapting language preferences for the target market.
2. Create a Subdirectory for the International Store:
- Access your Shopify admin dashboard.
- Navigate to "Online Store" > "Navigation."
- Add a new menu link named "International" or "Intl."
- Customize the link URL to point to domain.com/intl/ for the international store. Make sure the URL handles are correctly configured.
3. Set Up URL Redirects:
- Within your Shopify admin, find the "URL Redirects" or "URL Redirects Manager" section.
- Establish a redirect rule directing traffic from domain.com/intl/ to the URL of the international store. This ensures that visitors accessing domain.com/intl/ are properly directed to the international store.
4. Configure Currency Settings:
- Go to "Settings" > "General" in your Shopify admin panel.
- Adjust the "Store currency" settings to display prices in the chosen currency for the international store.
5. Customize for International Audience:
- Personalize content, language, and other settings to suit the preferences of your international audience for a more tailored shopping experience.
6. Testing Phase:
- Thoroughly test the setup by visiting domain.com/intl/ to confirm that visitors are redirected to the international store with the correct currency and language settings applied.
By carefully implementing these steps, you'll be able to create an international store within a specific folder structure on Shopify, providing a seamless shopping experience for your international customers without the need for a subdomain. Testing the setup thoroughly ensures that everything works smoothly for your international audience.
Thanks a ton..will check this..but I doubt Shopify will allow the same root domain name on another store.
Also is there a way to manage and sync all the products etc on both the stores automatically?
@jain1980 Shopify doesn't allow using the same domain for multiple stores. Each domain can be connected to only one store at a time on their platform. If a domain is already linked to a Shopify store, it can't be used for another store without releasing it from the current one.
Secondly , Yes, Shopify provides the capability to manage and sync products across multiple stores through various methods:
1-Third-Party Apps:There are several third-party apps available on the Shopify App Store that enable automatic synchronization of products, inventory, orders, and other data between multiple Shopify stores. These apps can streamline the process and ensure that changes made in one store reflect automatically in the other.
2. Shopify Plus: If you're using Shopify Plus, you might have access to additional features or tools that facilitate multi-store management, including automated syncing of products and data between stores.
3. API Integration: For more advanced users or developers, Shopify's API can be used to create custom solutions for syncing products and data between multiple stores. This method requires technical expertise but offers a high level of customization.
Before proceeding, carefully evaluate the available options, considering your specific needs, budget, and technical expertise. You can also consider using shopify apps such as :
Veeqo: Enables inventory management, order fulfillment, and synchronization across multiple Shopify stores as well as other platforms like Amazon, eBay, etc.
Zapiet: Provides multi-location inventory management, allowing you to control stock levels across multiple Shopify stores.
Syncio: Facilitates real-time syncing of inventory, pricing, and product details between different Shopify stores.
MultiPass: Allows customers to access multiple stores using a single account, simplifying the shopping experience across various storefronts.
Stock Sync: Helps synchronize inventory by importing/exporting CSV files between different Shopify stores.
Thnx Samia..So you mean to say domain.com/intl for international store wont work as domain.com is already the url for another store..am I understanding it correctly?
Yes, you're understanding it correctly. In Shopify, if a root domain (like domain.com) is already associated with a specific store, using subdirectories (such as domain.com/intl) for different stores or international versions won't automatically work within the same Shopify account.
Shopify typically operates on a one-store-per-domain basis for primary domains. This means that if domain.com is already linked to a Shopify store, you cannot directly create another store using a subdirectory (like domain.com/intl) under the same primary domain within the Shopify platform.
However, you might have some options to create different international versions or stores:
Using Subdomains: Instead of subdirectories (like /intl), you can set up subdomains (such as intl.domain.com) for different stores within the same Shopify account. Each subdomain can represent a different store or an international version.
Multiple Domains: You can register and use different domains (like domain.co.uk, domain.fr, etc.) for various international versions or stores within Shopify. Each domain would be associated with a separate store.
Third-Party Apps or Custom Solutions: Some third-party apps or custom solutions might provide workarounds or advanced features allowing you to manage multiple stores or international versions within a single Shopify account.
Thank you soo much Samia...glad to know that sub-domains would work..so better will use sub-domains to create the international store..
@jain1980I'm glad that I could provide a solution!

I want to achieve the same as https://www.bata.com/ for 7 countries with different Shopify Stores. Do you have an Idea how to do it?
Hello, I would suggest you to use shopify markets instead of creating different stores on Shopify for different markets. If you want further information about the I can help you out with it and you can also create different subfolder as per your needs in that.
