All things Shopify and commerce
I have a store that ships large items. We don't offer free shipping. We do offer an option that says "Residential - Send Quote" so that we can email customers a quote before finalizing the order. However, since it is essentially "0.00" Shopify shows it as "Free" at check out. Guaranteed most customers will just see the "Free". Is there any way to change the "Free" to something like tbd or tbc

Hi, @mdix

You can adjust any of your theme's standard languages through the Language Editor. From your Shopify Admin, select Online Store, then the 3 dots to the left of 'Customize.' From here, select Adjust theme's default content.
When using the language editor, utilize the search bar with the text you are looking to adjust. In this case, you'll want to type in "Free" and you should be shown a few options for 'Shipping Label.' It may take some trial and error before you change the correct term, but it will get the job done.
In the meantime, as this shipping strategy is tricky, and some customers might try and take advantage of not having to pay anything upfront, I recommend using a "terms and conditions" app. This will provide a checkbox that the customer must select in order to checkout declaring that shipping will be charged at a later date. A great app to achieve this is the free EZ Term and Conditions.
Hello @mdix
To provide you with the most precise solution in this case, could you please share your page URL ( with pass if your store password is enabled )?
Thank you and hope to hear from you.

The site is modernbathrooms.ca. I just moved my domain over yesterday (was on volusion) so it is still fairly glitchy and not showing everything the way it should. For this issue it is in the shipping page of the shopping cart where I would like it to show as TBC or something instead of Free as the rates are to be calculated offline and sent to the customer.

Thank you so much for the very detailed instructions. Ideally I would have been able to leave free for the pick up option and TBC or something like that for the shipping option. But changing one changed both. But, I was able to remove the "Free" so that will be much less confusing for customers. I really appreciate your help.
Hi Mdix,
I am having the same issues with my shopify and I saw on your website you were able to put "residential - send quote" on your shipping options. May I ask how you were able to accomplish this? I appreciate any help.
