All things Shopify and commerce
Hi everyone,
We have client who is right now in Philippines(Maybe traveling or working as Nomad) and would like to buy from our shop. He is from UK and his money in the card is GBP. When he shopping in our website, he selects UK and see prices in GBP, bet when he goes to checkout and selects country Philippines it changes to PHP currency. Shopify should have currency selector in checkout for case like this.
Don't worry, it will auto-convert to GBP when they purchase and you will receive it in PHP.

I understand that it will be converted. But it costs. That's why Client want change currency and pay in his selected currency, but not the in which shopify selects 🙂
It can be if you change currency of your store is GBP only

Not need to change shop currency, you can change in market. But still doesn't solve issue. Customer should be able select currency in checkout @Shopify
Hi there @DariusWS!
The currency in which your customers can check out would be determined by the payment gateway they're using to pay for the order.
Generally speaking, most (but not all) gateways will only allow your customers to check out in the 'home currency' your store is set to use.
If you can confirm which payment gateway this is, we can refer you to where you can get more info on this.
As Shopify Payments is not among the payment gateways available in the Philippines, you would need to be reaching out to the third-party gateway provider you're working with there for more info on their service.
Let us know which provider this is and we can look up more info and contact details for you to use!

Hi, @Don ,
Thank you for your answer. Here it is more information you preferred:
- Our shop default shop currency is USD,
- We are based in UK,
- We use Shopify Payments and PayPal
When we change with VPN to Philippines, we see still main payments providers. So issue will be the same with all of them.
Hi again, @DariusWS!
Apologies for my delay in getting back to you as I have been away from work in the interim.
Thanks for that info, though further clarification would still be appreciated so we can properly understand the situation.
You mentioned you were using a VPN here, can you elabourate on what you mean by 'change with VPN to Philippines' here?
If your store is based in the UK and this is reflected in your store settings then you will see the gateways that are available in the UK, and if your store is based in the Philippines and this is the case for your store settings then you will see the gateways that are available there instead.
Let me know if this is not the case or if you're unable to understand any of the info I have been sharing here so we can make sure we're on the same page!

What about international clients who is traveling or living abroad? SHOP is in UK, but client have credit card with GBP but he lives in Philippines. When he selects delivery address to Philippines it automatically changes to PHP and there is no option to change.
I am having the same issue. We have a customer who is currently in the UK but she has a home in the US. She is placing an order for her home in the US and wants to use a US credit card but the currency being displayed is in pounds. We used to use Zonos so the customer could change the home flag to whatever they wanted and it would also change the currency but now that we don't have that anymore (Shopify got rid of third party checkouts) we have seemingly lost control of the currency selection. I'm wondering if anyone was able to figure this out?
