All things Shopify and commerce
A critical bug is plaguing Shopify checkouts on Safari.
We noticed a lack of sales over the past day or two and found that the checkout page is malfunctioning specifically on Safari (desktop), with a loading placeholder obscuring the top portion of the checkout form (See the example from FashionNova.com below – a $1.4 billion company also powered by Shopify). This makes the checkout process appear broken, potentially leading to abandoned carts and lost sales.
Merchants, please urgently contact Shopify Support and share this alert with other merchants. The more voices raised, the faster Shopify will prioritize a fix.
Recommendation to Merchants: Monitor your sales data, especially from Safari users. If you see a drop in conversions, this bug could be to blame.
Shopify must address this issue promptly.
While this issue may seem minor, its impact on sales is substantial. Shopify has a responsibility to its merchants to provide a seamless and reliable checkout experience across all browsers. We urge Shopify to address this issue with the utmost urgency. Every minute this bug persists, merchants lose potential sales.
Update: Shopify's checkout is currently experiencing compatibility issues with older versions of Safari, particularly version 17.2. While the latest version (17.5) functions correctly, many users don't frequently update their browsers. Therefore, Shopify should prioritize ensuring seamless checkout compatibility across both older and newer Safari versions.
