Hello! Some time ago, but I believe during 2023, my store received an invite from Shopify to list pre-approved products in a special collection. These products had preloaded pictures and ad copy and all you had to do was offer them for sale. The cost of the product and shipping was built in so the experience was seamless to the customer. The customer added them to their cart as normal and I believe the items were drop-shipped. On the merchant side, you simply received the profit from offering the items for sale. I even remember that your store had to be a certain size to qualify. And that was the point of the email from Shopify...our store qualified.
We did not have time to investigate this at the time, but now I cannot find ANY information on this program. I just got off with Shopify support and they were not familiar with this either.
Am I going crazy? I will admit that I cannot find the email from Shopify about this opportunity. Does this ring a bell for anyone? Does this catalog of approved items exist?
The situation you are referring to was not from Shopify. I have been with the company many years and we have never provided products to merchants.
However, you could be referring to our not retired dropshipping app called Oberlo. This app was a connection to AliExpress. However, you still needed to markup your products and set up your store as with any Shopify store.
Another potential situation is a third party marketer who provides Shopify store's to individuals pre-built. These marketers often use Shopify and sell courses, but aren't involved with Shopify directly.
Finally, this could have been a scam where a bad actor was posing as Shopify with this offer in order to try and gain access to your store.
