All things Shopify and commerce
Hi all,
Looking for some help with our 'Price' and 'Compare at Price' fields problem. For our store we use the fields in this way:
Product at full price
'Price' = RRP (MSRP)
'Compare at Price' = blank
Product discounted
'Price' = discounted price
'Compare at Price' = RRP (MSRP)
All very straight forward, however this system does create a lot of extra work when changing products from full price to a discounted price, and vice versa, as we do often with a very large number of products. And we haven't found a good bulk editing app that is able to cope with a simple rule like "discount all products by 10%". Most of the apps we found can run rules like "discount the 'Price' field", "discount the 'Compare at Price' field", but not a rule like "discount the 'Price' field and if 'Price' field is empty, cut entry from 'Compare at Price' field into 'Price' field, then discount".
Someone suggested that we always enter a price into both fields; so if a product is full price it has the same entry in 'Price' and 'Compare at Price'. This works at the product page level, where only a single price is displayed, but at the collection page level the product tiles display both identical prices, with one being struck out.
Has anyone come up against this issue and found a solution?
Many thanks,
Pete
Hi @ALP-Pete !
Thank you @Darex001 for the mention!
Matrixify is able to help out here! The Matrixify app is able to bulk update Price and Compare At Price in bulk and you can do so in Excel and add any formulas you may need to automate the process even further. The general outline of what you would need to do is:
1, Go to the Matrixify app and click "New Export"
2. On the Export page check the checkbox for Products from the "Select Sheets" drop-down.
3. Once you have done this you should now see many other checkboxes that have appeared. The only checkboxes you need to check are "Basic columns" and "Inventory/Variants".
4. Then go to the Customize Columns section.
5. In this section you can add | Remove the columns you wish to have in the file. The only columns you need are ID, Handle, Variant ID, Variant SKU, Variant Price and Variant Compare At Price. You can go ahead and remove the rest.
6. Then go ahead and press the Export button.
7. In your exported file you can update the "Variant Compare At Price" and “Variant Price” column value as well as adding any formulas you require to automatically calculate the prices you require.
8. Save the file (you can also leave the formulas, Matrixify can handle that!), then Import the file back into Matrixify.
That would be the general process, but if you have any additional questions or need any help setting this up, feel free to reach out to our support, we would be happy to help!
Thanks for your reply, but there doesn't seem to be any benefit using this app over just formatting a csv file.
Thanks anyway.

Matrixify is able to help in this case! The Matrixify app is able to update both Price and Compare At Price in bulk and you can also add formulas to the this to further automate the process as Matrixify uses Excel files to Import. Here is an small guide on how it would work:
1. Go to the Matrixify app and click "New Export".
2. On the Export page check the checkbox for Products from the "Select Sheets" drop-down.
3. Once you have done this you should now see many other checkboxes that have appeared. The only checkboxes you need to check are "Basic columns" and "Inventory/Variants"

5. In this section you can remove the columns you do not wish to have in the file. The only columns you need are ID, Handle, Variant ID, Variant SKU, Variant Price and Variant Compare At Price. You can go ahead and remove the rest.
6. Then go ahead and press the Export button.
7. In your exported file you can update the "Variant Compare At Price" and “Variant Price” column value as well as adding any formulas you would require.
8. Save the file (no need to remove any formulas, Matrixify can handle them!), then Import the file back into Matrixify.
That would be an overview of the process, however, if you have any questions at all or if you need help setting this up, please feel free to reach out to our support, we would be happy to help!
