Creating custom datafield for each purchase and setting it by link

Hi!

I'm trying to figure out how to make possible to have custom data field in my product. Value would be set by the link what customer uses when he comes for purchase. So for example customer would click link myshop.com/fineproduct/?abc=123 then he buyis it and after purchase i could read that abc was 123 with Zapier.

I have been trying to use metafields but i must be doing something wrong. Is there any guide for this kind of application?

Okay. I found a way to read metafield data with zapier. Too bad it seems like that you can't alternate metafield data of an order with just passing link to customer
