Customers being redirected to new customer accounts, even though I've selected classic?

Hi all,

When I first set up my store I opted to trial new customer accounts. However I've since moved back to classic customer accounts, as I need to add metafields in the customer account page.

That being said, I've noticed that a few places throughout the platform/user journey that my customers are being directed to the new customer accounts login page. For example, in the order confirmation email, the 'view your order' button takes them to the new customer accounts url. When they click the back arrow from this page, it takes then to the new customer account login page (asking for a verification code).

I've spoken to Shopify support about this, and they've said it's expected behaviour... How on earth can it be expected for customers to have 2 login user flows, when I've explicitly opted to use 1 over the other?

If any classic customer account users could double check this for me on their stores I'd be very grateful. I'm sure this must be a bug, but I have no way of testing it on my store.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

This is Richard at PageFly - Shopify Advanced Page Builder app.

It seems like a discrepancy between your store's settings and how certain parts of the platform are behaving. While Shopify support might claim it's expected behavior, it's definitely worth investigating further.

Possible Solutions and Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Double-Check Store Settings:

    • Customer Accounts: Ensure that the "Classic Customer Accounts" option is selected under Settings > Accounts.
    • Theme Settings: Check your theme settings for any customizations related to customer accounts or login pages.
    • App Settings: If you're using any third-party apps that might influence customer accounts, review their settings and ensure they're compatible with classic accounts.
  2. Clear Cache and Cookies:

    • Ask your customers to clear their browser cache and cookies. Sometimes, old cached data can cause unexpected behavior.
  3. Test on Different Devices and Browsers:

    • Try accessing your store from different devices and browsers to see if the issue persists. This can help isolate the problem and determine if it's a specific device or browser issue.
  4. Contact Shopify Support Again:

    • If the above steps don't resolve the issue, contact Shopify support again and provide detailed information about the specific problem, including screenshots and steps to reproduce the issue. Be persistent and escalate the issue if necessary.

Hoping my solution helps you solve your problem.

Best regards,

Richard | PageFly

Hi Richard,

Thanks for getting back to me. Shopify have now told me that it's expected behaviour, which I cannot get my head around. If my customers are used to logging into my store with an email and password, and seeing their usual customer account page, they're going to be very confused when they can also log in with a 6 digit code and see a completely different version of their account page.

Is there any way that you (or anybody using classic customer accounts reading this) would be able to run a test for me? I just need to see whether this happens for everyone using classic customer accounts, or just me as I'm a fairly new Shopify customer who had originally opted for new customer accounts. I just cannot believe this is not a bug.

Regards,

Joe

So I had this issue as well.  What I found out is that one of my ACCOUNT LOGIN links that was located on my site had an old link to the new customer accounts.  I did not realize that it was a completely different link, but it is.  So while your New customer accounts may be disabled, you can still use it if the link is still somewhere on your site.  So once I found that on my site (it showed up in my mobile menu) and changed it to the correct one, everything works great.
