All things Shopify and commerce
Hey, I've just launched my store. When the first customers bought a product who were also subscribed to my newsletter, they have been automatically unsubscribed from my mailing list, even tho they did not actively do so.
Why does that happen? I use Shopifys regular Email app to send emails. I'd appreciate some solutions 😕
Best regards
Having this same issue. Did you find a solution?
Same issue here! I am using Shopify Email. All purchases seem to automatically unsubscribe the buyer. A few other loyal clients are now unsubscribed. Not sure if they had an abandoned cart or what. Please help us understand why this is happening!
Same here too! So frustrating. Did anyone get an answer to it?
There is now a solution by @kenkai at the bottom of this thread. Worked for me!
I am having this same issue! I thought it was just me. It's really frustrating when trying to build a business. Have anyone found a solution for this yet?
Are there people using Klaviyo who are having the same issue? Or did Klaviyo find a way around this?
I use Klaviyo and I used to have this issue. I just unchecked the boxes for marketing options. One of the posts in this thread explains why, but it worked.
I've been having the same issue, but I use Klaviyo for my customers. The issue isn't making sense.
Hi all,
I have the solution for this.
Customers are being unsubscribed after purchase because when doing a purchase, there is a box on checkout which says “would you like to subscribe to our newsletter?” Or something similar. When this is left unchecked by the customer, and the customer inputs the same email when purchasing (which they previously used to subscribe), it will unsubscribe them from the email list.
Now the best way to get around this is to make that check box automatically ticked through the Shopify settings on the checkout page. This way customers don’t have to check the box, it’s already done, and thus your subscribers will still stay subscribed after purchasing.
That's it! I went back to my checkout settings and ticked the "email me with news and offers". Now if someone DOESN'T want to subscribe they can untick this box. But it isn't confusing for those who are already subscribed. Thank you for this solution!
Hey guys! when you go to settings, check out - I can't find were to actually tick the button! Any help (:
Can you do a set by step? for some reason, I cant find the tick option
I am having the same issue but my checkout box is ticked to be autumatically subscribed (this is in relation to an answer below) does anyone have a solution?
We too are having the same
issue and Shopify is no help, Mailchimp is no help. Both are blaming the other. Our box is checked to automatically stay subscribed and it still unsubscribes them as soon as they purchase. All my top customs have now been unsubscribed.
So sorry this is happening you. I have not had an issue but I switched to Shopify email marketing last fall. I did notice that Shopify sent an email touting its new checkout and accounts editor. I have not updated to that. Did you? Could that be the issue? Hope you find a solution soon. It is VERY frustrating to loose good client info.
Hello, It took a while but finally with Mailchimps help it was fixed. Here is what they did for me. If you are paying for the plan where you can use the Chat then they can do this for you too.
Mailchimp Assistant said: "As I was researching on this subscription status with your contacts, I noticed there are some old Shopify connections in your Legacy Mailchimp account". So basically I had an old Mailchimp app link that hadn't been deleted when I upgraded and reconnected a newer app link to Mailchimp via the store. Hope this helps. It fixed all my problems as, like yourself, I was going in circles between Shopify and Mailchimp. Hope it is an answer for you too.
We have the same issue here. SHOPIFY SHOULD SOLVE THIS. Yes, you can add a box to subscribe to newsletters in check-out. That is a good idea. BUT... If one doesn't select, the box doesn't mean they want to unsubscribe. We noticed all of our loyal clients unsubscribing from our Mailchimp list after they ordered. We called some, and none of them wanted to unsubscribe. We got in touch with Mailchimp and they informed us that Shopify sent an API call to Mailchimp to unsubscribe after the order was placed. That's just incorrect. Even if you automatically check the box to subscribe, customers who are already subscribed might uncheck the box, thinking that it's not needed since they are already on the list. In that case the customer will also be unsubscribed (unwanted). To Shopify: All emails should have a footer where you can unsubscribe; that is the place where one should do it. Don't start messing with it in the checkout.
We expect an answer.
