Customize checkout?

Hi community,

I'm working for a fashion client and they need to customize their payment checkout. Any recommendations that are safe and easy to customize? Is it better to use an app or services?

Hey there! 

If you just need to do a few simple rules for re-ordering payment methods or delivery options, I'd recommend my own app Checkout Logic which has a free plan where you can get most things done in that regard. If they are on Shopify Plus there are also plenty of options to add more customizations with the same app or with apps like Checkout Blocks. but for my own clients (also fashion) they get everything in one app with Checkout Logic.

Which Shopify plan you're on.

What kind of customization?
Are you trying to?

• Add custom fields (e.g. order notes, sizing instructions)
• Adjust the layout or branding (fonts, colors, logo)
• Translate or reword certain parts of the checkout

We’re on the Shopify Plus plan and looking to customize the checkout to:

1. Add a couple of custom fields (like sizing instructions or delivery notes).
2. Slightly tweak the layout and branding, mainly fonts and logo placement.
3. And adjust some wording for clarity (not a full translation, just rephrasing some labels).

Since you’re on Shopify Plus, you’ve got access to Checkout Extensibility, which is perfect for what you’re trying to do.

• For custom fields, use Checkout UI extensions—they let you safely add inputs like sizing instructions directly to the checkout without touching the liquid files.
• For layout and branding tweaks, use Checkout Branding API—you can adjust fonts, colors, logos, and button styles.
• For text changes, the Checkout editor or Shopify’s localization settings can handle rewording most labels.

No app is needed unless you're doing something more advanced. I'd avoid third-party checkout apps—they often replace the native flow and can affect performance or conversion.

@Kudosi-Carlos It's literally only supported to use apps for point 1 (and point 2 if you want to go deeper with the branding)... please don't reply these if you don't know, since you're going to mislead them.

@tcardelTotally get where you're coming from, but just to set the record straight - Shopify does support native solutions for these on Shopify Plus via Checkout Extensibility. No app is required for the basic, especially when @motion1back_mar is on Shopify Plus.

Unless @motion1back_mar  doing something way outside of scope like conditional logic, upsells, or full layout overhauls. Shopify gives them direct tools built for the job.

Appreciate the discussion. From my side, I just want to make sure most aren’t misled into thinking apps are the only way.

Can you link to any article or otherwise show how you would add custom input fields to the checkout without an app? Just so there are no misunderstandings.
