All things Shopify and commerce
Hi - We are currently on the basic Shopify plan. If we were to upgrade to the plus plan, would we have the ability to customize the checkout process? Specifically, we would like to add a condition where the customer has to acknowledge that they are clear on what they’re receiving from us before being allowed to check out. Thanks!

Hi, @heavens2!
Would the condition that you mention appear on checkout in the form of a terms and conditions checkbox? So customers would be required to tick this checkbox before being able to successfully proceed with placing their order? If that's the case, this is something that you'd be able to add if your store is on the Shopify Plus plan. You can check our developer document here for best practices on editing the checkout.liquid
layout. On the very bottom of that page, you'll be able to get more information on how this feature can be implemented.
It's important to note that if you make changes to the checkout.liquid
layout of your store, you'll need to manually upgrade it whenever Shopify releases an update.
Was there any other features of our Shopify Plus plan, apart from being able to edit the checkout of your store, that you'd be interested in? The reason that I ask is because alternatively, you can also look into adding the terms and conditions checkbox to your cart page, rather than on your checkout. This customisation is available on the Basic plan too, so you won't have to look into upgrading your Shopify plan if you're happy with sticking to your current one. This feature requires that customers check the terms and conditions box before continuing to the checkout. If a customer doesn't check the checkbox before clicking the checkout button, an alert pop up will prevent them from continuing.
If you're comfortable with coding, we have a step by step tutorial here on our Community Forums on how you can implement this feature to your store's theme. Because this is an advanced tutorial however, it isn't supported by Shopify staff, but you can hire a Shopify Expert if you aren't comfortable following the steps in the tutorial.
Alternatively, to help with this customisation, you can also install a third-party app from our Shopify app store such as the Terms and Conditions Checkbox App, or the Agree Terms and Conditions App. Just a note however that these apps are made by third-party developers outside of Shopify. So if you have any questions about them I would recommend getting in touch with the app developers, as they are best equipped to answer app-specific queries.

Hi Kimi,
Is it yet possible to custom the checkout page in the dawn theme? I can't find this option anywhere.
Greetings,
Edwin
Hi, @Evl1000.
What aspect of your checkout page are you looking to customise? And which Shopify plan is your store subscribed to?
At this stage, stores that are not subscribed to Shopify Plus can only customise the style of their checkout page, as mentioned on our Help Centre guide here. You can navigate to Settings > Checkouts and accounts > Checkout style and click on the Customise checkout button to start customising your store's checkout style.
You can also take a look at our course here for a video guide in designing your checkout.

Thanks for clarifying, @Evl1000!
You won't be able to change the placement of the email field within the checkout page at this stage. Since the checkout is a secured page, Shopify has not made the source code available to ensure that the information inputted on checkout for both merchants and customers remains safe at all times. Even on the Shopify Plus plan, there are still limitations as to what can be altered on checkout, to make sure that the page is secure and aligns with the PCI Compliance standard.
With the checkbox however, as explained in the accepted solution post on this thread, you'll be able to add this feature within the cart page right before checkout, which is worth looking into. I've shared the relevant resources on how you can achieve this in the accepted solution post, but I'll share it with you below as well for easy access:
You'll notice that two of the resources above lead to third-party app listings on our Shopify App Store. Oftentimes, when features aren't available natively within the Shopify admin, chances are a third-party app can help you achieve the customisation that you're looking for. I'll leave you with this resource as well, for a guide on adding third-party apps onto your store.
In regards to Shopify Plus, pricing starts at $2,000 USD per month. Our Shopify Plus plan is especially designed for high-volume, and enterprise-level stores. On top of what is offered within our Shopify platform, business owners on the Shopify Plus plan will have more customisation and control available to help their store sell online and in-person. You can find out more about our Shopify Plus plan here, in case you'd like to have a read more on what the Plus plan entails.

Which theme are you currently using for your store?
Some themes have an age verifier feature available within the theme editor, which can normally be found if you navigate to Online store > Themes > Customise > Theme settings. You can then check under either the Popup or, if available within the theme, Verification popup section and you'll be presented with the option to enable and customise the age verifier popup for your store. The section should look something like the following:
You can also check this page of our Shopify Theme Store to check if your theme is on the age verifier themes list.
If the current theme that you're using doesn't have this feature available however, you can instead look into installing a third-party age verifier app on your store. There's a few of them available, which you can browse on the Shopify App Store here. But I did find this one in particular which I think is worth taking a closer look at, as it appears to be highly rated by our merchants, and with a free plan available too!
What are you planning to sell on your store? It sounds like you're currently in the building phase, so if you'd like to share your page with me here, I'd be more than happy to review it and offer some feedback and guidance. In the meantime, I'll leave you with a couple of handy resources below to further help you work on your store, and get you ready for launch:
