All things Shopify and commerce
Hi everyone, I'm a Shopify newbie so I need a little help.
I'm trying to see if it's possible to create a highly customizable product on Shopify. Think of something like a charm bracelet.
- User chooses a base product (the bracelet).
- User should then be able to choose little items/letters to be added to the bracelet.
- These items should have their own quantity and price attached to them (eg: Letter M $1, Camera $2 so on).
- User should be able to add multiples of an item (eg: Two letter 'M' items).
- The price of the overall product should increase depending on what and how many items I add to the product.
For example, say the base bracelet is $50 and if I customize the above bracelet with a camera item and two letter 'M' items, my total would be $54.
Bracelet = $50
Camera item x 1 = $2
Letter 'M' x 2 = $2
Is this possible to do on Shopify without any third-party app? The reason I'm asking this is I'm hoping to implement a custom storefront so I need to support these functions via the API as well.
But if this is not possible natively, I'm open to any third-party app suggestions as well.
Many thanks in advance.
Hi @cenisuru,
I recommend using the Easify Product Options app to set up custom options for your products (demo). To help you get started, I've outlined a step-by-step guide below. If you encounter any difficulties or need more specific guidance, please feel free to leave a comment or reach out to the Easify team via the in-app live chat for quicker assistance 🤗.
Create Your Base Product (Charm Bracelet): Start by creating your base product, the charm bracelet, without adding the individual charms as options or variants within it.
Install and Configure the App: Install the app and set up an option set for your product.
Add Charm Selection Option: Within the app, add an option for customers to select their charms. Choose the appropriate option type (e.g., Image Swatches, Dropdown with images, etc.). Make sure to enable multi-select so that customers can choose multiple charms from your list.
Include Quantity Selection for Charms: Create an additional option for customers to specify the quantity for each selected charm. For instance, if your product includes three charms, create three quantity boxes that will be displayed when the related charms are selected.
When "Camera" charm is selected:
When "Letter M" charm is selected:
When both charms are selected:
Link Options to Base Product: Finally, link the base product (the charm bracelet) to the custom options you've created. Once you've done this, your setup will be complete.
Regarding the quantity selection for each charm, Easify team is also working on a new feature that will eliminate the need for separate quantity boxes. Here's a preview of what the new quantity selection will look like:
As you see, Easify Product Options offers a variety of customization possibilities. The app is user-friendly, hope you can give it a try 😍.
Hi, thanks very much for the very detailed response. However I'm unable to view the demo store. It's asking for a password.
Hi @cenisuru,
To access the demo, kindly use the password "8". It's important to mention that this demo is another example of a charm bracelet with custom options, courtesy of our app. For complete setup instructions for your case, please install the app and refer to my previous comment for guidance 😊.
Thanks again. One last question. Is it possible to get these extra added fields from the Shopify Storefront API? That's important to us because we're developing a custom app as a storefront.
To confirm compatibility between your custom app and Easify, we recommend installing the app on your site (beginning with the free plan) and conducting testing. If you encounter any issues or have questions, our team is readily available via the in-app live chat to assist you promptly 😊.
