All things Shopify and commerce
Hello Everyone,
I'm writing in this forum to share my experience and hopefully get some advice or guidance on a pressing situation that's been causing me a lot of stress.
I run a Shopify store and have been the target of fraudulent DMCA takedowns which have resulted in my store being taken offline four times now. The damages I've incurred due to these forced shutdowns have surpassed €20,000. These DMCA notices are not legitimate; another Shopify store is copying images and texts from my website and then falsely claiming to Shopify that they are the original owner.
The most frustrating part is that these DMCA claims are apparently being evaluated by software, not humans. My understanding is that the software takes just a few seconds to process a DMCA claim and subsequently take the reported store offline, without any substantial verification of the claim's legitimacy.
I have reached out to Shopify multiple times seeking assistance and measures to prevent this from happening again, but to my dismay, they have refused to help. It feels as though there is no protection or safety net for store owners like me against such fraudulent activities.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar? If so, how did you deal with it? Are there any practical steps I can take to protect my store from these fake DMCA takedowns and prevent further damages?
Looking forward to hearing from you all. Thank you in advance for your time and input.
Best,
Hannes
