All things Shopify and commerce
Hey all,
When a customer or visitor goes to to the "Data sales opt-out page." and fills out the information - what exactly happens?
We tried it with a client, but nothing seems to happen: no update, no confirmation, no email.
So for someone concerned with data privacy - what exactly happens when this form is filled?
I understand you're curious about what happens when a customer fills out the "Data sales opt-out" form on your Shopify store. Let's break it down.
What's the Purpose of This Form?
This form allows customers to opt out of having their personal information sold or shared, in line with privacy laws like the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). When a customer submits this form, their request is synced with Shopify Audiences, ensuring their data isn't included in future audience lists.
Why Didn't You Notice Any Immediate Feedback?
Currently, when a customer submits the opt-out form, there's no automatic confirmation like an email or on-screen message. This lack of immediate feedback can make it seem like nothing happened. However, rest assured that the opt-out request is processed in the background.
How Can You Verify the Opt-Out?
To confirm that a customer's opt-out has been registered, you can manually check their status in the Shopify Audiences app:
This manual verification ensures that their data won't be shared in future audience lists.
Enhancing Customer Experience
Given the current setup, customers don't receive immediate confirmation after opting out. To improve their experience, consider customizing your store to provide a confirmation message upon form submission. This can reassure customers that their request has been received and processed.
If you need any other assistance, feel free to reply and I will try my best to help.
Best regards,
Daisy
