Dawn theme: photo is dark

Hi, I'm building a store with Dawn theme and have loaded in a photo for the homepage. It is showing darker than the original photo and I'm wondering if this is built into the theme. The sample of the theme shopify shows me seems to also be darkened. Is there a way to remove whatever filter is there?

You can  follow the instruction below: 

1. Go to Shopify > Theme > Customize

2. Copy and paste this code on Theme settings > Custom CSS section

.banner::after, .banner__media::after {
    background: none !important;
}

Here is the result:

1. Go to Shopify -> Theme -> Customize ->Click to Image banner section -> Find Image overlay opacity
2. You can adjust the opacity of the image

3. Click to save
