Default on New Products has changed to ‘active’. How can I bring back default to draft?

This change is causing a bunch of problems for us. We sell vintage furniture, and also sell consignment pieces. We had a good system of taking pictures, etc, at pick up, but did not make items active until they were in store and had a barcode label attached.

I assume it’s something with the recent updates. I understand that others would like the active default- but I believe we should have an option/ preference. If it is available, I can’t find it.

Help Please!

Hi @Pbmauk,

May I ask since when it happened?

In the past two weeks

Same here, it changed in the last few weeks. We are a Jeweler and every new item keeps defaulting to active. It's really irritating, as each item needs work before the items are ready to be activated.

Still no solution or option to change default to draft...

Did you ever find a solution for this? It's a huge pain having new products automatically made active.

No, and I am having repeated problems with Shopify changing defaults with no warning or option. Most recently, they eliminated ‘price override’ on POS. I am sure some stores didn’t like it- so make it an option that can be turned on or off.

I don’t get how they can constantly change things and expect that to be helpful. You train staff, write down procedures,  adapt to doing things one way… and then it’s just gone.

It’s ridiculous and bad business practice. You want new products to be active instead of draft? Go to preferences. You don’t want ‘price over ride’ as an option? Go to preferences. Shopify gets to say they have provided a new option, instead of messing with all of us.

Agreed - If Shopify keeps making changes like that, they will drive customers away.
