Delete an order from unfulfilled screen

Hello,

Can you please advise how I can remove a cancelled order from my 'unfulfilled' filter please?

I have refunded and cancelled the order however it's still showing on my unfulfilled screen and it's really frustrating when i'm trying to work through my unfulfilled orders.

Or is there anyone who can help remove this?

Thank you

Ellie

Hi @Ellieh27,

Nick here from Shopify. Great question!

There are only certain circumstances when an order and be completely deleted and removed from the admin.

Deleted orders are removed from your Shopify admin and are no longer tracked in reports. Only the following types of order can be deleted:

  • orders that were paid with a manual payment method
  • orders that started as a draft and were then marked as paid
  • orders that were imported through the Shopify API
  • test orders

I did make a test order on my store, cancelled it, then the Delete Order option came up at the bottom of the order as you can see in the screenshot:

25-52-9y01l-hadyi

This did remove the order from my main orders and the unfulfilled section. Something to note though is there will be no information or data from the order anywhere in your store should you ever need it for any purpose afterwards. Shopify also has a guide for this which you can read here. Let me know if this works for you.

Hello @Ellieh27 , you can do this by clicking on the order no. and on the bottom left you can see an option called "Delete order". However please note that this would delete that particular order from your shopify admin forever.

I can see that since 2016 many people have asked to have a button to simply fulfil or delete any unfulfilled order.

Is this available already?

I work with pre-orders and I want to have a direct view of what really needs to be fulfilled.

Please let me know... someone!

Thanks

Hi @JFMMUK,

Currently the only way an order can be deleted is if it is under the same circumstances as I mentioned in my above reply:

So just to clarify: There is no way I can change the fulfilment status on orders that are cancelled or refunded and archived and/or older than 60 days ?

So I will have my open order counter always show those ancient orders?

At the moment I still have the unnecessary and inconvenient 8 orders that were fraud or were cancelled.

There should be a way to reset this…

That’s really deceiving and unnecessary - I should have control on what to see on my app or on my browser.

Hi @markvanhaze,

In this instance because the order was never technically fulfilled so it would always show this order status. If the order is archived then it doesn't count to open orders in your admin. The Shopify docs have more information about order fulfillment here

I'm sorry but making a unfulfilled order archived, does not remove it from the counter.

Unless this is some sort of caching issue I'm not aware of.

Hi @markvanhaze,

Apologies, I don't think I communicated it very well before:

When you fulfill an order, you can archive it to remove it from the list of open orders. Archiving lets you keep track of open orders that have not yet been completed, and to make sure that you have an accurate count of open orders in Shopify.

Any cancelled unfullfilled orders will remain in the order section of the store and look like this:

24-44-rewpk-jdg2n

24-46-ygfnc-2xeso

It's not possible to remove it from the list of orders there. There is a Shopify help guide which touches on canceling, archiving and deleting orders here too.

I do see what you mean, that having the order there can be annoying and by archiving it you would want it removed from that section completely. I will submit a feature request on your behalf with this feedback for the development team going forward!

Archiving does remove it from the list, that is not the issue. The problem is the counter:

Hi @markvanhaze,

Thanks for sending the screenshot! Any unfulfilled orders will be counted in the counter you highlighted even if archived. The only way to remove the number is to delete the order completely. I completely understand how this could be misleading for you when you want to know how many actual orders you need to fulfill.

There is an active feature request for this which I have added your feedback to. Once there's an update on this I've made a note to update the thread here.

When do you expect to have a resolution? This seems pretty basic...and a common occurrence!

Still waiting on a solution for this, having 15 orders on the app that are "unfulfilled" drives me mad and I cannot delete them for auditing purposes

The 1st time I requested to manually delete, or hide cancelled orders, it was in September 2021… almost a year ago.

Still trying to fix this myself. Drives me insane, terrible design by Shopify.

Hi @Nick

Thank you for that enlightening explanation on how not to solve a problem we've all been grappling with for years. It's truly fascinating to see how a platform as advanced as Shopify can exhibit such a glaring oversight for such a basic feature. I wonder if the "Delete Order" button is an endangered species we should all cherish when it miraculously appears.

I'm sure we're all eagerly awaiting the day this "feature request" evolves into an actual feature. After all, who doesn't love a cluttered dashboard filled with "unfulfilled" orders that are as useful as a broken TV screen?

Looking forward to not having to mentally count canceled orders to figure out what actually needs fulfilling.

Best regards,

Hi Nick,

This is still an outstanding issue and should not be showing as solved. When can we expect a solution to this??

Thanks

Came here looking for an answer to this question. Disappointed there isn't an answer to this question. Requesting a delete, or a real archive button for this issue. It's maddening to see open orders when there are none.

STILL waiting for this solution!

I made a mistake and cancelled a cancelled order!

Now I'm stuck with it permanently unfulfilled. I'll be working it into my epitaph now....

This, in itself, is very unfulfilling.

Hey, Shopify! Did you know for every person that complain out loud about something there are at least 10 other people that are complaining silently...? That's a LOT of complaints counting this thread alone. Just sayin'.

7 years and still no solution? dear lord can we get some action on this please? The unfulfilled orders haunt my dreams...surely 7 years of complaints are enough to get some action on this. Or is there now is a solution, can you link me please!

I'm going to also request this feature be added ASAP.  When an order is cancelled, it should automatically no longer count as "unfulfilled" because there is no longer something to fulfill.  I have to keep a running count in my head of cancelled orders so I know at a glance if there is something new to fulfill or not.  That's just silly.  Thank you for adding this feature soon!!

The funny thing is ... Shopify says this issue is Solved ... it is not ...

I just had a chat with Shopify ... they say they will forward it to the developer .... haha ... since over one year there is now progress in this

Shopify ... as leading ecommerce plattform in the world ... please please please give one developers of yours one day time to get rid of this bug ... it is really pretty annoying

Thanks

I've just had a customer try to make a purchase twice for the same item over a few days. Both times they wanted to pay with bank transfer. They finally sent a screenshot of payment and noticed they had an incorrect bank acc number!

So obviously they decided to cancel their order/s.

So NO purchase, NO payment and I have now cancelled the orders how ever they still show as unfulfilled. I have fulfilled them by cancelling them both!

This is really a poor solution to to the back end order management!

And I notice is has been with the developers for 2 years!

Can't understand how an obviously flawed hiccup like this cannot be fixed in a shorter time frame than 2 YEARS !

This is ridiculous that you can’t clear out refunded or cancelled orders from your queue. Seems like a simple fix but all the fees we’re collectively paying isn’t enough for Shopify to fix this 😐

Boo this issue.

Looks like this still has yet to be resolved. We're still looking at hundreds of "open" orders in our Admin, but in reality, there's nothing to fulfill as the ones being considered in the counter have been cancelled or refunded. I hope we can get this patched soon...

Agreed. Not solved. The "Unfulfilled" status gives the indication there is another option, fulfilled.  Which, for cancelled orders you never intend to fulfil, will never be an option. I guess one can try to add a "not canceled" order to the filter?
