Discount for sets

Discount for sets

Hi, we are new to Shopfiy and are trying to navigate things.

We currently sell our sets as:
Purchase individual size top and pay x (the markup is higher if they purchase individual size)
Purchase individual size bottom and pay x (the markup is higher if they purchase individual size)
They will receive a discount if you purchase the same size set top/bottom.

We currently have this set up as variants in our product inventory on Shopify,
Purchase type: Top, Bottom, Set
The issue is keeping up with inventory when someone purchases an item. So if someone purchases a tiny top and medium bottom, we then have to edit the quantity of the small and medium set; if we are not able to get to this right away, then it's a potential false sale. Does anyone have a simplified way of doing this same concept or an app? Our customers have loved being able to purchase different-sized tops/bottoms but have also commented on how much they love the same-size discount incentive. Any guidance is appreciated.

Hi @AmandaG08 👋

https://xyproblem.info/ ... do discounts even matter or is the real goal inventory management.

Good bundling apps could help with inventory sync among same skus but it's harder when you have such tangential inventory pools.

i.e. buying skuA and skuB doesn't simply decrement all other skuA's and skuB's, instead it means skusX and skuY have to change.

No quick fix you'd just have to invest the time testing of what works with your process.

Otherwise if not using bundling features/apps you need to find an inventory-sync app to connect the products/skus, etc or build your own process using an automation tool like mechanic:

Note: even if skus were the same shopify has NO concept of inventory pooling.
