All things Shopify and commerce
This is my first time posting in the forums. Prior to posting, I searched for the answer. While I came across many threads going back years, I was unable to find a resolution our issue.
Using our new POS system for the first time, we just returned from a large tradeshow where we were offering a 25% discount on our products. In preparing for the show, we created an Excel Spreadsheet pricing sheets using the formula =ROUND(F9*0.75,2). [F9 is the full retail price] With this formula, we followed standard rounding for 2 decibel points where less than 5 rounds down and 5+ rounds up.
For example, 25% off of $499.99 = $374.9925. With standard rounding, the sale price would be $374.99.
From reading other posts, Shopify is incorrectly rounding down the discount discount price to the first 2 decibel points.
Using the above example, 25% of $499.99 = $124.9975. With their rounding, Shopify removed the .0075 and reduce the price by $124.99. This means that the automatic price in our POS is $375.00, when it is actually $374.99.
Another post I read provided the below answer (I only included the part with the math): Thread Link
Actual discounts are rounded down to 2 d.p. Hence the reason you see 3.62 instead of 3.61 which you expect.
Using the example provided you provided, 15% off 4.25 is 0.6375, which when rounded down to 2 d.p. becomes 0.63. 4.25 - 0.63 = 3.62
My question is this: who do we reach out to at Shopify to get this error corrected? We ended up having to manually discount prices on several items during the show due to the 25% off being wrong. While this didn't take a long time, it created several unneeded extra steps and, in my opinion, didn't look very professional for us.
Even though Shopify has not responded to this post, I wanted to show another issue with discounting.
A few minutes ago I create an order directly in Shopify. Here are the details:
While only $0.01, why would the subtotal and the total, without tax or shipping being added, increase? Yes, I am sure that it is a rounding error (39.99*0.75 = 29.9925), but whatever price is in the subtotal should carry over to the total, in my opinion.
