Discounted Price Showing as Original Price in Cart Drawer

Hi there,

I'm hoping someone has an idea how to fix this ... It's the first time I've had this issue in 4 years of having the same exact Shopify set-up.

I have a 20% automatic discount applied to several collections in my shop for a sale. When you add one of those items to the cart, e.g. a $28 print, the cart only shows the already discounted price struck through ($22) as though it was the regular price, and below it is an even lower discounted price ($17). However the subtotal shows the actual, correct price of the sale item ($22). When you go to checkout it also has the correct sale price ($22).

It's going to look really confusing to customers, even though the end total is correct.

This is my only active promo on the site, and no changes have been made on my end to any code on the site since it launched a few years ago.

Thanks for your time,

Rachel

Hi Rachel,

I can understand your concern about the confusing price display, where the $28 print appears as $22 (the correct discounted price) and $17 (an incorrect additional discount) in the cart, even though the subtotal and checkout correctly show $22. This can understandably confuse customers.

Why This Happens

The issue likely stems from how the cart template or JavaScript in your theme is handling the automatic discount display. It's possible that the discount logic is being applied twice visually, but the actual price calculation remains correct in the backend.

This issue can typically be resolved by making adjustments to your theme. Specifically:

  1. Cart Template (cart.liquid or equivalent):
Review the logic that calculates and displays the discounted price. Ensure that discounts are only being applied and displayed once.

  2. Javascript:
Check any scripts related to cart price updates. Sometimes, themes use JavaScript to dynamically update prices in the cart, which might cause this duplication.

  3. CSS (Optional):
Update any relevant styles to ensure the price display is visually consistent and clear for customers.

If you'd like, I can help implement these changes for you. I would need collaborator access to your Shopify store to review and fix the issue. Alternatively, if you'd prefer to share your cart.liquid file or any relevant code snippets, I can guide you through the necessary changes.

Let me know how you'd like to proceed!
