All things Shopify and commerce
I just closed one of my shopify stores, just tried using it for like an hour with the starter plan for a year, I am wondering will I be charged even after I closed it? It shows as inactive in my stores list. Should I be charged on $1 USD right?
Thanks.
Hi @potatouser,
If you closed your Shopify store shortly after activating the Starter plan, you should not be billed beyond the initial $1 USD for the first month if that was part of a promotion. Since you deactivated your store quickly, no further charges should apply as long as the store remains closed. Shopify only continues to bill for active stores, so seeing it marked as "Inactive" in your store list is a good confirmation.
To double-check, you can also go to Settings > Billing in your Shopify account (if accessible) to review any charges or refunds pending. You should also receive a confirmation email about the store’s closure, which might outline any remaining costs or refunds, if applicable.
If you see unexpected charges, you may reach out to Shopify Support for further assistance with this.
Hope this helps, and good luck with any future Shopify ventures!

Adebayo
Hi @potatouser , thank you for posting here!
If you have deactivated your store and are still receiving charges from Shopify, it sounds like your subscription is still active. Here are a few steps you can take to address this issue:
Log in to your Shopify account and navigate to the "Billing" section to check if your subscription is still active. If it is, you can click on the "Cancel subscription" button to cancel it.
Check your PayPal account to see if there are any recurring payments set up for Shopify. If there are, you can cancel them to stop the charges from continuing.
If you're unable to cancel the subscription from your end, you can contact Shopify's support team. They'll be able to assist you in canceling your subscription and issuing a refund for any charges that were made after your store was deactivated.
Contact PayPal support, they will help you to stop recurring payments.
It's important to note that, if you cancel your subscription in the middle of the billing period, you will not be refunded for the remaining days of that period.
It's also worth double-checking to make sure that your store is deactivated, as sometimes stores can be paused rather than fully deactivated.
