Hi. I am a newbie. At this stage, I only plan on selling through Shopify, and not in person or at a physical store. Is a barcode needed when selling one single product (a bottle of shampoo) on Shopify?

You aren't required to add barcodes for your products, no. They're best used when selling in person and using a barcode scanner to tally up customer orders, or as part of the supply chain process. If your products were being handled by a third-party fulfillment service then they might be more necessary, but if you're selling the products from home you're less likely to need them. You can read more about when and why it might be useful to add barcodes to your products on our Help Center.

Hi Victor,
I have the same problem on this. My Shopify site doesn't require this but Google does on the Merchant Center. When I have contacted my suppliers they don't understand??
Have you found an answer for this problem yet? I am having the same issue.
