All things Shopify and commerce
Hi all,
If I want to cancel an order, I just want to know whether my stock will automatically be restocked. If not, what am I supposed to do right for my stock to be restocked automatically.
If it does restock, what is the restock option given separately. What does the 'restock' option do in that case?
Thanks in advance

Hi, @Yunus1711. Thanks for starting this thread!
When cancelling an order, the payment status will be changed to either Refunded or Voided. If payment has been collected, and fulfillment has not occurred (or it has been cancelled as well), you will be given the option to restock the item(s) when confirming the refund details. There is a checkbox that is checked by default to restock all items, and so you would need to uncheck the box if you do not want to restock your items. It looks like this:

Hi Helen - Is there anyway to have an update to allow this button to be unchecked by default?
It's causing inventory issues if someone forgets to uncheck it. Then things are being sold that are not available.
We will never restock the item when the customer is refunded (repackaging process needs to happen), so we have to manually uncheck this for every refund.
There are various other threads with people having the same issues.
I checked the changelog and there is nothing there under inventory that I saw.
This is an ongoing problem for several years now it seems to be an issue. It causes us many many unhappy customers, when someone doesn't uncheck that box. Then all the customers get email saying item is back in stock when it really isn't. It's obvious that if the checkbox was unchecked by default it would cause alot less problems. Especially to customer experience!!! Please fix !
