Solved

Does Shopify host my images?

My site has 80,000 products, some with more than one image. When I initially bulk uploaded the images, they referred back to a partner website, e.g. abcd.com/images/12345.jpg (does that make sense?)

That website is shortly to close. When it does, will I lose all my store images or is Shopify now hosting them?

TIA

Sorry it doesn't. Can you clarify what you mean?

The images you added on Shopify are within Shopify's CDN. So yes, Shopify is hosting those images for you. If your product images are coming from Shopify, you don't have to worry about losing them.
But if your product images are coming from a separate source, then yes.
You can check if you images are coming or not by looking at the link of the image.
If it has, https://yourstorename.com/cdn/shop/files/coding.png
Your store name/cdn/shop that means it is coming Shopify.
Hopefully this answers your questions, if not feel free to contact me back.

Hey, @TellyTubby.

Thank you for reaching out and posting this question!

I'm delighted to see that you were able to get some support from the Shopify Community! Shopify uses a Content Delivery Network (CDN) for hosting files and images as indicated by @Taknify, and this includes images that are uploaded when adding products, images uploaded through the theme editor, and files uploaded under the Files settings of the Shopify admin.

That being said, while your store's information is guaranteed for 2 years should you do decide to cancel your subscription and deactivate your Shopify store, we'd still encourage making a backup of your store's data. As advised in the considerations before deactivating your store section on our guide, we'd recommend exporting CSV files and downloading a backup of your theme.

If you have any other questions on this topic, then don't hesitate to let me know!
