Does Shopify offer a dark mode for the Admin Page?

Greetings!
I've been using in house browser dark mode since the day of dawn, but as time goes, so does patience for things that do not look right. I stopped using the in house browser flag for dark mode as more and more pages are getting native support and while working with my Shopify store I wanted a pure view on what 95% of others will see too, while being real time while working on this project. I used to main Edge with dark mode flag and Chrome bare bone default for that experience.

The real question is:
Does Shopify have Admin Page dark mode? When you edit products, settings, online store etc.
My Shopify store is native dark mode so that is not the question, only Shopify Admin.
If not, will we get it sooner rather than later? 😄

Best Regards.

Hey @BargainBasement.

Thanks for reaching out.

I appreciate the context that you have provided us as that is very helpful! This is a great question.

At the moment, Shopify does not have a function to allow the Shopify admin to appear in dark mode. However, I can certainly see the benefit of having this feature available for Shopify merchants. With that being said, I am going to mention this to the developers of the platform as a suggestion. We appreciate you reaching out with this feedback!

How hard it is to add a darkmode on your website. GOD bless my eyes.

It's been two years since the post was created, and there's still no dark mode. When do you plan to add it? My eyes can't take this bright light anymore!

Has this setting been enabled? It has been over two years. It cannot be that hard!

The real core problems are the way shopify builds the admin using "modern" processes spits out an inflexible constantly shifting <div> soup. So you , the community, or other merchants can't even effecitvely  build a strong set of userstyles to make up for deficiencies in shopify not being a good netizens to their own ecosystem.

So we on the outside can't even fix issues like this among many others without them constantly breaking while we wait years for the UX to be addressed.

But hey the Live view will probably get a 100% completely new look yet again right before this Black-Friday confusing merchants 👍

And unfortunately there are too many missing apis to built custom admins with a high level of parity. Nor is there a theme system for the admin itself, possibly using liquid , to address such things.

In my oppinion you should think of this issue. In todays AI World, you should have think ou this solution by your own. After all Shopify is a big Shot of E-Commerce Community in the world.

It would be really nice to have this option... Is it very difficult to implement? Expensive?

Use the Dark Reader Chrome extension. You can make any website dark mode including Shopify admin. It's also available for Edge, Firefox and Safari.

You can get a Chrome extension for this, or you can enable dark mode for all websites by going to chrome://flags/ in the omnibar, searching "Dark mode" and enabling it. Once relaunched you are all set. This will work all websites you visit automatically. Just be aware that some websites may have issues with showing certain content such as buttons, words or animation, inverted images etc.
