Re: Domain transfer from WordPress to Shopify

Domain transfer from WordPress to Shopify

Hi.

We recently created a Shopify account for our Business. We started out with WordPress and decided to transfer over to Shopify.

We connected the already existing Domain to the new Shopify site, but the domain is still showing up as the old site.

Is there any way Shopify can help us with this problem.

Would be much appreciated.

Katina

Hello @jangiaccessorie !

Before you transfer a domain to Shopify, consider the following requirements.
You need to have registered your domain more than 60 days ago.
You need to wait up to 20 days after you begin the transfer for the transfer to complete.
You need to pay to register your domain for 12 months. The 12 months are added on to your domain's current expiry date
You need to have access to your original domain provider account and the email account that you use to log in to it.
You need to monitor and respond to confirmation emails to complete the transfer process.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,

Hi.

Thank you for the fast reply.

All of these requirements have been taken into account.
The WordPress site and the domain have been active for more than 1 year
now.
And both the A Records and CNAME have been moved to direct to Shopify.
But is there some sort of manual way we have to remove the domain from the
WordPress back office?

Hey @jangiaccessorie ,

Steps:
From your Shopify admin, click Online Store > Domains.
Click Transfer domain.
Enter the domain that you want to transfer to Shopify. Do not include www. at the beginning of the domain.
Click Next.
Click Verify domain.
Depending on which message is displayed, do one of the following:
If DOMAIN UNLOCKED is displayed, then the domain is ready to be transferred. Click Next to continue.
If DOMAIN LOCKED is displayed, then make sure you've prepared your domain for transfer.
In the Verification code dialog box, enter the authorization code, or EPP code, given by your domain provider.
Click Next.
Click Buy and transfer.
Check the email account associated with your domain. Depending on your domain provider, you might have an email asking you to confirm these changes. The email message varies, but you need to approve the domain transfer by clicking a link such as Confirm Transfer or Approve Transfer

Hope this helps!

Hello @jangiaccessorie ,

Transferring .com.au domain to your Shopify account isn't currently supported, but this is only for transferring the domain to Shopify so you would manage your domain settings/renew the domain via Shopify directly. There is no workaround for transferring .com.au domain to our platform at this point in time. However, you can still point your domain to your Shopify store so you can still use it! Here are the steps:

Log in to the account you have with your domain provider.

Find your DNS settings. Look for your domain management area, DNS configuration, or similar.

Edit your A record to point to Shopify's IP address 23.227.38.32

The domain settings panel might feature drop-downs or editable fields, or you might have to check boxes or edit a table. You need to:

enter or choose the @ symbol, or A record
enter Shopify's IP address 23.227.38.32
Save the A Record (click Save, Save Zone File, Add Record, or similar).

Find the CNAME record in your DNS settings.

Change your www CNAME record to point to shops.myshopify.com . Often, you need to provide just the prefix without the dot, but for some domain providers you need the whole subdomain. Use the existing entries as a guide, or follow your provider's instructions. CNAME records must always point to a domain name, never to an IP address.

Save the CNAME Record (usually by clicking Save or Add record or similar)
