Double-Opt-in for account registration

Hi,
everyone knows if there is a possibility to add a Double-Opt-in in customer account registration?
If not, is Shopify planning to add this feature in the next future?

I would like to check if the email used to create an account are real.

At this time Shopify doesn't have an option like this for customer account creation. Although, we do offer our new customer accounts which require being able to access the email address to receive a code for login.

It is important to note how the customers section in your admin functions and how customer information is collected in your store. The customer section will show you customers from all stages of shopping in your store. If they have an abandoned cart, they will have a customer account. This is so that you can send an abandoned cart email to the customer and track those metrics. If a customer sends you a message on Inbox, they will have a customer account. This is to track your conversations and analytics on that customer profile. 

 

Customer accounts are tracked and utilized in various different ways across your store, and there are different levels to a customer account. Completely removing all listed customers that have not double opted in would not be beneficial for your business in the long run. You can absolutely set up filters in your customer section so you can easily see just the customer accounts that have completed sign up. 

 

For the full account creation process, creating a customer account with double opt-in, Shopify doesn't offer that at this time. The closest would be our new customer accounts that do not include a password, but require email confirmation for every login.

 

There are third party apps that can manage customer accounts for you and you can find those here: Shopify App Store - Customer Accounts. A consideration for using an app to manage your customer accounts is that the customer account data will be stored inside the app interface and if the app developers decide to sunset their app or if there are issues, you could risk losing your customer data. This is not to say it is a bad idea or anything like that, just something about that setup to be considered.

Hi @Shay , thanks for your reply.

I've already saw the double optin in the newsletter but i'm interested in the account creation. I would like to have a double opt-in when the customer create an account from the /account/registration page. More precisly i want to have the creation of an account in the admin section of the store only after the customer clicked the link of confirmation received by mail with the double opt-in.
Do you know anythings can help my?
In case this isn't implemented in shopify, will it be in the future?

Hey @AleAmaducci,


Depending on what exactly your desired flow is for customer registration, you may be able to take advantage of the additional registration options offered in an app such as Helium Customer Fields.

Specifically, the Customer Fields app offers an option to require email verification, where the customer is sent an email after registering to confirm their address and finish activating their account.

There is also an option to require account approval, which requires having store staff manually approve each registration. It doesn't sound like this is quite what you are looking for but I figured that I would mention it just in case.

Yeah, this is low key crazy. Theres no double opt-in OR eye symbol to enable seeing the letters they type. It's just dot dot dot, hope you didnt mistype anything, good luck. Like, common!
