Hi

we have one website www.spotbuy.co.uk  that we setup as a sandbox. It is still running along side our main website www.studentcomputers.co.uk  and is a complete mirror. Is this affecting our google search results please?

Thank you.

Hi,

Having two websites that are complete mirrors of each other can indeed affect your Google search results:

Potential Issues:

1. Duplicate Content: Google may penalize or lower the ranking of sites with duplicate content

2. Split Traffic: Traffic might be split between the two sites, which can affect your overall site performance metrics and SEO rankings

3. Crawl Budget: Search engines allocate a specific crawl budget to each site. Having duplicate content can waste this budget, leading to less frequent indexing of your main site.

Solutions:
1. Canonical Tags: Use canonical tags to indicate the preferred version of a page. This helps search engines understand which page to prioritize
2. 301 Redirects: Implement 301 redirects from the sandbox site to the main site. This will consolidate the SEO value and direct all traffic to your main site
3. Robots.txt: Update the robots.txt file on the sandbox site to prevent search engines from indexing it
