All things Shopify and commerce
I was wondering if there would ever be a way to change how customers can opt in to e-mail subscriptions on shopify? Right now it's either the option exists or not, and if the checked box for opt-in is checked or not.
The issue is that having the box prechecked is against GDPR now, (And possibly more progressive states like california), and we have no way to toggle the box checked or not depending on location, nor as far as i know any way to adjust how the question is presented. And no one wants to leave it unchecked since e-mail marketting is such a big deal.
I was googling around and found this interesting blog that might solve the problem if shopify could ever implement it:
https://www.zettasphere.com/gdpr-consent-opt-in-examples/
In here it proposes a new standard for e-mail opt in, where there are radio buttons the customer selects between yes or no with neither prechecked, some how given the choice most people pick yes, AND it's GDPR compliant and personally morally great for me since it means people actively opted in instead of accidentally missing a box and getting what they think is spam.
Shopify rarely gives us new features i feel, so idk how likely this is, but unless there's a way to once again pay for another add on to do this for me, how could i replicate this method in my check out menu since it seems like we are never a allowed to touch that?
