All things Shopify and commerce
Hi all,
Can you let me know if the products that are shipped from suppliers through Ali Express/Dsers are EU standard? I am selling to the UK.
Also, would I be best to get Liability insurance for my shop?
Many thanks
HI, there
I believe you should focus on whether the specific products meet the EU standard instead of Ali Express/Dsers, as the products of Ali Express/Dsers might come from anywhere.
Hey there, @Peppe2! Thanks for jumping into the Shopify Community Forums with your questions around products being offered through AliExpress and Dsers. My name is Imogen. It's nice to chat with you!
As the platforms you mentioned above are third party, we wouldn't be able to advise on any specifics around the sorts of products offered by these services, or the type of standards that they may meet. It would be best to reach out to these platforms directly with your question regarding if their products meet EU standards, as they would be the folks best equipped to provide you with the most accurate information on this topic.
As for your question around liability insurance, Shopify Support staff are not legal experts so we can't directly advise on what sort of insurance liabilities your business may need to account for. It would be wise to connect with a local authority on business law, or even a government body that handles business regulations, for guidance on this topic.

Hi, @Peppe2
Skye here, jumping in for my colleague.
As Imogen mentioned, DSers is a third party platform. As such, we wouldn't be able to provide directions on how to find the information you are looking for. The best course of action is to reach out to DSers directly.
Good luck!
Hi,
When selling to the UK, you can’t assume that products shipped from suppliers via AliExpress or DSers automatically meet EU or UK standards. Many suppliers on these platforms don’t provide full compliance documentation, such as CE marking, UKCA marking, safety certificates, or test reports. To avoid legal and financial risks, you should request compliance documents from your suppliers and verify that they meet UK regulations for your specific product category.
As for liability insurance, it’s highly recommended. Since you’re the seller, you could be held responsible for product safety issues, especially if the manufacturer is outside the UK. Product liability insurance helps protect you from claims related to defective or unsafe products.
If you need help assessing compliance or obtaining the necessary documentation, EaseCert (https://easecert.com/) offers regulatory support for product safety, risk assessment, and certification. Let me know if you need more details.
Best,
Chris
