Experienced a massive payment refund on Shopify? Share your story

Has anyone else been affected by this!?

 

On December 19, Shopify accidentally refunded 95% of my orders that were made using Shopify payments. My business has been dramatically impacted by this financially and they are saying I have to wait weeks for a reply. This is terrible customer service as no one has replied to my emails in weeks regarding this situation. The product I sell is a program and it starts this week, and Shopify caused my business to take a loss over $100,000 because of their mistakes.

 

At this point I just want all of the customers who is now showing as refunded to make sure they get their refund so there will be no confusion.

 

I am thinking about taking  legal action because of the damages I have encountered. Thoughts?

Wow, what a mistake! This seems like a serious issue, but fortunately, no issues here. Everything is as it should be. I hope you can cover your loss. Shopify should address and fix their issues.

Thank you, I hope they reimburse my business, because my employees were affected and so were the operations of my business. A $100k+ loss due to a mistake on shopify’s end is crazy, especially after I have to pay fees to use the platform.

 

Many of my customers are first time customers and they did not want to repurchase again, especially around Christmas time. Makes sense from a customers standpoint so I can’t be mad at them.

Hi,

I have the same issue, they refunded my customers as well without my knowing and I am at loss of $33K. I've been on the chat everyday trying to know what the next steps will be and when they will refund me. I'm considering taking legal action – it seems like several shops have suffered this issue.

I feel sorry for you as well. This is a terrible thing for us business owners. This was my first week on Shopify and my first store ever. Waking up and seeing $130k gone had my heart drop. My business is at a loss right now due to this, and my shareholders are so angry. I think this may be something to take legal action on. I hope they just cut us a check for the money we lost.
