Experiencing inventory glitches in the Shopify app, any advice?

We are having issues with the inventory in the shopify app. When using it on our phones to update inventory the numbers jump around, and a completely different number will save. When this happens, we have to exit the app and check each item we have updated to ensure it doesn't update incorrectly. Sometimes when using the + and - buttons to manage the stock the numbers increase or decrease by 2's and will not allow us to get the correct number.

We also constantly find issues with our inventory, on items in which we have counted and updated. It seems far more frequent than could be possible for human error. There are also no third parties handling stock.

Are these general shopify issues? Does anyone else experience them? We really aren't sure how to fix it as it seems to glitch.

We find it easiest managing stock via the app using our phones.

Any advice is appreciated.

Hi there, @CuriousGrace and all additional posters! Thanks for taking the time to reach out to the Shopify Community with this inventory issue. My name is Imogen. It's good to meet you!

Just for the sake of troubleshooting, please make sure that you've updated your Shopify Mobile App to it's latest software version. Additionally, make sure that your device is using it's latest OS version, as well. If you find that you have no pending updates, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the application to see if that resolves things.

If after these local troubleshooting steps you're issue remains, please reach out to our Authenticated Support Team so they can authenticate you, collect some store information, and pass things along internally if needed.

Same here! I thought it was me, but no. I keep finding items with no stock! Showing on our website as sold out when I know there's plenty of stock, and we haven't updated this item to show different—so many items with the same problem. Out of nowhere, the stock becomes zero.

I don’t have any advice, but this is an ongoing and widespread issue.

3/4 Shopify business owners I talked to in the last 24 hours have this exact ongoing issue. I believe it started in 2022 for us.

So I have experience this but on my PC as well. Not just using my app. I have synced up integration for years and never seen this before. I am curious if anyone uses Shopupz for integration for Etsy. I cant say for sure but this issue is more recent and so is that integration. But when I go live launching and nothing is available it is getting ridiculous. I have cleared the cookies, rebooted the computer, and all the other things. Is their any real solutions?

Hi there, @NUBJewels. Thanks for following up on this thread! Based on your message, it sounds like your issue may be related to a third party app integration, and not the native functionality of the Shopify Mobile App. If you suspect that this inventory issue may be caused by this recent integration you've created in your store using a third party app, it would be best to reach out directly to the developers of the app to see if they can look into this integration and see if the issue lies within there, or if it's something else.

We have been having this issue on going we do not use any third party apps and the inventory is constantly off from our pc.  is shopify going resolve this inventory issue or do we all need to start looking for a better company to serve our needs?  Because the line "well make sure your app is update" isn't going to work anymore.

Hi there, @highdemand! Thanks for following up on this thread, and thanks as well for your feedback! If you're experiencing issues with your inventory numbers within the Shopify Admin, and you're not using any third party integrations to assist with inventory tracking that you suspect may be a potential cause, then definitely take the time to reach out to our Support Team via our AI Assistant. This will give us the opportunity to authenticate you, collect examples from you regarding products you've noticed this happening with, and will let us communicate with Internal Teams so we can look into resolving this for you!

AI assistance are NOT HELPFUL and totally suck.

Thank you for your feedback, @dear-golden. To be clear, you only need to engage with AI Assistant at the beginning of the support interaction. This engagement is simply to let the AI Assistant know about your support request, so that way it can provide that information to the Support Advisor that it will be connecting you with for support. The AI may also make recommendations on how to address your support request without involvement from an advisor, but you can request to speak to an advisor if you find it's suggestions are unhelpful.

Hi CuriousGrace,

There is a way to see inventory adjustment history on the product variant page. It can help you identify inventory glitches.

Let me know if this is helpful, and if you need more support.

Cheers!

Hi all - Is anyone using Stocky? I use both Shopify POS and Shopify for my website. POS comes with the App Stocky which is owned by Shopify. Stocky has been wonky for me in other ways. COGS, weird messages etc.

Generally it is ok but does have issues.

Hi @KidShoesDirect
If Im not mistaken, Stocky use last PO purchase price instead of a weighted average for COGS.

Hi @Maxime_Obius

Yes that is correct they are using the last price put into Stocky. Shopify overrides the existing price so say you have 3 of product X which you purchased at 9.95 and you purchase 10 more at 8.95 Shopify will show inventory of 13 at 8.95. When Shopify calculates COGS to my knowledge a FIFO pricing is not used so in my example on 3 of product X you are overstating your margin by $ 1.00.

Hi there, @ThatPoodleLyfe. Thanks for taking the time to follow up on this thread! If you're experiencing an issue with a specific integration (so JetPrint, in your case) it's best to reach out to the developers of the integration directly so you can ask them how to resolve an issues regarding inventory syncing between their app and Shopify. I've linked their app listing page above; they have a 'contact support' option available on the bottom left of that page that you can use to reach out to them.

They told me to fix the inventory in Shopify. You just told me to go to them. Neither of you are helpful.

Hey, @ThatPoodleLyfe!

I'm sorry to hear that. Did the app developers provide any details on what the issue would be on Shopify's end? Most of the time, if there's an issue with a particular app, the developers are the best ones to address it.

If you have more information about the issue, please let me know!

If you experience stock issues consistently there are a few things I'd do:

  1. Take a deep dive down the inventory adjustment history (products > variant > adjustment history) for products that are off (if there are many then select a few that are always off)
  2. Do an inventory recount or cycle count your inventory to get them back on track and mark the date so that when/if it happens again you can go to the inventory history at that date and determine exactly what went wrong
  3. Look at the internal procedures you are using, and limit the staff who have permissions to make adjustments
  4. Go with an external inventory solution such as SKUSavvy which will have much better inventory logging and built-in features to help detect and eliminate these issues
