All things Shopify and commerce
Hi there,
I found a very helpful site under the inventory section called 'Inventory History'.
what we like about it is that it shows the actual order or draft that reduced the inventory, or the increase of inventory through restocking.
now the challenge is that this is a site per variant of a SKU that I need to manually navigate to.
I'd love to get this information in a CVS file across all variants and all SKUs so that I can slice it and dice however I want. it would be very helpful for example in tagging products for orders as I can ask my team to just go out and tag products based on orders and they don't do it based on orders (a lot of running around in a big warehouse) but rather by SKU and then consolidate the products for each order to fulfill.
Any suggestions how to get to this data?
Thanks
Evert

Unfortunately, as far as I can see, Shopify doesn't expose the inventory history through the API.
Hi Evert,
Have you tried exporting orders? You'll get a CSV file that includes line items with order numbers, SKUs and quantities. Or is this not sufficient?
Best regards,
Lukasz
Hi Lukasz,
thanks for the reply. however this export does not include the inventory history per item.
I guess I could recreate it by using existing inventory and then in excel sorting the order export by the items and then subtracting the line items from the inventory ordered by the date... but that's all manual. go to inventory and then chose a product. if you scroll further down you find the inventory history - that's the information that I'd like to have for every product and every transaction on our site exported in one file.
thanks,
Evert
Thanks for clarification. I'm going to look into the Shopity API and check if it would be possible to create such a custom export.

I've asked Shopify Support directly about this before. They said there is no way to export. Not only does it give you the history of a SKU, but other details such as who manually adjusted or if a 3rd party app made a change... this data is not available anywhere else. I may submit a feature request now that I know I'm not the only one that could benifit from this.
I just don't get it. Does no one in the Shopify world need to use inventory adjustments of various categories for accounting purposes? It seems not. Things like shrinkage, breakage, charity and miscounts need to be accounted for in PnL. Very frustrating.
We need this for when we reduce inventory internally. Ridiculous that you can't export or otherwise get access to the data.
I will note that we started using the Stocky app for inventory management functions including PO/receive and adjustments. It's by no means perfect, but it enables some missing functionality in the core Shopify system. We are able to create inventory adjustments with classifications. I can dump a CSV periodically that includes cost, then sort and summarize for journal entries.
