external domain landing page

They say there are no stupid questions, but that's how I feel right now 😉

I have the domain "https://lilea-education.com/", this domain is connected to my Shopify store. Now I want to create a few landing pages for products (https://lilea-education.com/pages/landingpages), which works great. However, one of my products is completely different from the others and doesn't fit into my repertoire. That's why I want to call up the landing page for this product with another domain as an example https://xy.com/otherproduct.

Does that make sense (tracking, social media, etc.)? Is that even possible? Is that how it is done, is it common practice?

Thanks for your help

@pfannenwender,

It's possible to use a different domain for a specific product landing page, but it may not be the best practice, especially for consistency and tracking purposes. Here's a breakdown:

1. Tracking and Analytics:

  • Challenges: Using separate domains can complicate tracking, as you'll need to manage separate analytics for each domain. This can make it harder to get a cohesive view of your marketing performance, especially if you're running ads or campaigns across multiple platforms.
  • Solution: If you choose to go this route, ensure you set up cross-domain tracking in Google Analytics to maintain visibility across both domains.

2. Social Media and Branding:

  • Consistency: Having different domains might confuse customers and dilute your brand identity. It's generally more effective to keep everything under one domain to build brand recognition.
  • Solution: You can create a dedicated landing page under the same domain (e.g., https://lilea-education.com/pages/otherproduct) and use branding and design to differentiate it from your other products.

3. SEO Considerations:

  • Authority: Using a single domain helps consolidate your SEO efforts, as backlinks and traffic all contribute to the domain’s authority. Separate domains might require extra SEO work to rank well.
  • Solution: Stick with subpages or subdirectories under your main domain to optimize SEO benefits.

4. Common Practice:

  • Industry Standards: It’s more common to create product-specific landing pages within the same domain for consistency, ease of tracking, and branding. Using different domains is less common and typically reserved for entirely different brands or businesses.

Conclusion:

It's technically possible to use another domain, but it may complicate tracking, SEO, and branding. It’s generally better to keep everything under one domain and use landing pages to differentiate products.
