Facebook Shop Default Variant Different Then Shopify Site

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read this discussion.

I sell wood signs on my shopify site: https://rusticfarmhousedesign.com/

I have different trim colours as a variant. I have taken the time on the site to set the default colour in the product display page to match the trim colour shown in our PDP photo.

We recently integrated Facebook Shop however, if you select  a sign the default trim colour isn't showing correctly. It is showing a different colour, then when you click view website this incorrect default trim colour is selected as the trim colour on the website.

Ideally I would like for these to match. One alternative I was considering is removing all colours from the FB product catalogue leaving only the default colours. Then, when you go to the website it shows the proper default colour amongst the other options for colours. The one thing I am still testing is that if I make a change on the FB product catalogue will that sink to Shopify product catalogue.

This was posted in another thread.  It seems to be the only solution .

Welcome to Shopify Community. My name is Olivia and I work here.

I appreciate your post and your feedback. I can definitely understand why it's important for merchants like you to be able to order variants by their preference. You are also correct in that we have received this feedback before, and have logged this development request internally.

To provide further context, the most displayed variant is pulled by the Facebook algorithm over which we have little control or influence. With that being said, there are certainly some 'hacks' you can use to display your desired variants and increase your conversion.

Set up Facebook-only products

  1. Set up custom products with availability only for the Facebook channel
  2. In these Facebook-only products, you can create variants as their own product ie. your base product for $199, with no variants
Optional: set up other variant options as their own product

Couple things to look out for:

  • be mindful of what other sales channel availability you want for your channel specific products
  • to prevent confusion for merchants, make your regular product (with all variants) unavailable on the Facebook channel

That should definitely do the trick, but if you have further questions don't hesitate to follow-up with me in this thread.

Unfortunately, this isn't something Shopify can control. Facebook determines what is shows to potential customers based on their algorithms. It would be best to connect with Facebook directly if you have concerns about how their product operates.
